Coburn???

Miami is more like Houston than Austin is.

just moved back to miami from houston. i'm still amazed at how similar the cities are.

First time I went to Houston, all I could think was that it was a bigger version of Miami. It's not at all country like I thought it would be. It's actually a pretty dope city.

Side note: Best BBQ in south Florida is Blue Willie's on Commercial just east of Dixie. Tom Jenkins is close second.

Do explain. I've never seriously considered moving to Texas, but if Houston is like a big Miami I might have to take a closer look. I told my wife I'm done living in blue states. The cure for liberalism is trying to make a living in Hawaii for a few years, you'll get tired of the answer to every problem created by the fiscal irresponsibility of the 100% democrat government (Hawaii is the bluest state in the union) being more taxes.

It's a warm weather metropolitan city. Palm trees, no mountains, diverse population. Not quite as close to the coast as Miami but still relatively near the water. The majority of the Lation population is Mexican instead of Cuban but there's a cool blend of cultures. Naturally, there's plenty to do and see in such a big city, so getting bored is unlikely. It's on a short list of places I'd live if I ever left sunny south Florida.

Houston is known as the armpit of Texas for a reason.

That said, it's having a bit of renaissance, which would explain why DTP had a good time. No judgment.

But Houston sucks.

houston is an interesting place. politically blue, but culturally purple. it has an enormous footprint and traffic makes miami look pretty decent by comparison. there are no cohesive building codes, so you can see a multi-million dollar mansion next to some run-down shanty that doubles as an adult bookstore. 3rd and 5th ward are the danger zones, but easy to avoid once you're used to the area. public transportation is very good for the most part, especially from downtown.

the best thing, for me anyway, is the food scene. you can get anything you want to eat in houston.

social scene is really diverse. yuppie bars in midtown, a typical big city downtown, the galleria if you feel fancy, and a few nice clubs.

just be warned that it's much hotter in the summer and gets pretty cold in the winter compared to here.

Most of the residents of the state of Florida will tell you that Miami is a $hithole and you should never visit there unless you want to get robbed, raped and killed. Different strokes.

Somebody take that young man to Tom Jenkins.

Red Cow and GA Pig also!

Get him some lechon from Versailles and Havana Harry’s. That’s way better than any BBQ pork.

Don't do it to yourself.

DO NOT AGREE. as a northeasterner married to a cuban with no particular favorite horse in the game, pulled pork smothered in bbq sauce from a good BBQ spot is significantly more enjoyable than pork from any of those places or cooked in the back yard on one of those contraptions. i know i am going to get killed for this by my cuban friends on the board but i can't tell a lie.

An opinion cant be a lie.

The flooding in Houston is like nothing you've ever experienced. It's INSANE! Amazing Tex Mex though. It doesn't get the Ocean breeze so it gets Hot and very Humid. The Galleria area is fun and the people are pretty chill.

My home girl and her husband just moved down to Houston and she loves it down there. She said it's a popping city and she said the strip clubs are popping there too. (she swings both ways and only mess w/ the baddest....hence we became friends ASAP. lol).

No strip clubs I like my money

Haven’t been there in a long time. Does it still stink from refineries?

You're the second person I've heard mention Blue Willy's BBQ in the last few weeks. Other dude was a much older gentleman from Georgia who said the best BBQ he's had in South Florida was Tom Jenkins and Blue Willy's (in no particular order). I'm going to have to get out there.

Try Papa Sauce over in Pompano. Thank me later!

DTP was being polite.

The folks in Texas that knock Houston and the folks in Florida that knock Miami, are the same type of folks ...

don't worry. they're not nearly as good as they are here. apparently the girls don't like it when you tell them that mom only lets you spend $5 a night and that they have to work for it. whodathunkit?

2am breakfast buffet at men's club (they really could've named it something better) is dope though.

According to Texas 247 site he’s visiting Texas this weekend for an unofficial visit
