Coach Golden has informed staff he will be staying at Miami

I think Golden operates this program like he's going by a set of instructions from a manual at the same time...despite the tone of his surroundings. Tease leaving for another job? "Nope, I love it here, that's how great I love this place." Nevermind the fact that this entire fanbase was willing to move your furniture for you. We wanted you leave for christ sakes!

Speak for yourself.. I want golden to continue to build his program.. Year 5 is when I'll decide if I wanna start moving furniture.

So you're content with 2 more years of mediocrity? You're a 1 percenter.

you guys are trippin!!! Golden should come back this year…Lets give the man a chance to work a full season without any sanctions or anything hanging over the program. Then if we still suck and barely beat sucky teams and get slaughtered by decent teams…then, its legit to want him out. But as it stands we were just considered the ****tiest program in college football and this man led us out of that to semi-respectability. Give him a chance to coach his uys up. And Dino isn't going anywhere unless he does the admirable thing and step down. If he were a good friend he would do that and not allow his friend to be fired because of him…smh fat chance! But lets chill and let this class get in, and lets see how this plays out.

And what was that i was hearing about Mario Cristobal as our new coach if Golden left…really???? Not good enough to lead FIU but good enough to lead UM??? c'mon man!!!

So I guess we need to wait until what, 2017? Because we'll be down a 3 scholarships per year for the next 3 years. And you know Mr. Excuse Maker will be sure to remind everyone of that massive cloud hanging over him.

I don't think we're gonna be gangbusters on the field for a while. But there is no excuse for the 2015 class. He will be recruiting on an even playing field for the first time ever at Miami. It's a huge litmus test IMO.

If we don't win and show progress next year......recruiting will hurt. If we win, then Golden will be fine in the recruiting game. If we field a **** product though, I don't care what kind of a recruiter you are, eventually it catches up with you.

I'm being realistic. It takes time to build a program.. And Dorito or not shayon green, thurston, kacy, aj, Curtis, Luther, renfrow and jimmy Gaines, Tyrone Cornelius were all major pieces of our defense.. Those kids worked their asses off but they still weren't miami caliber players.

Per Source: Deal was done w/ #AlGolden yesterday, interviews w/ #MikeMunchak & #JamesFranklin made him walk, not money or staff #PennState
So he was offered, took the deal and then turned into a soft shouldered ***** and declined. Great loyalty on his part.

Agree. But he's recruiting top 10 classes when were around #40 in the US. If we can get to 10 wins...

Umm if a deal is done you don't have any more interviews.. kinda how it works. More likely no offer was made, and Al could not wait any longer for them to finish their interviews because the the storm brewing down here.

It's not abnormal for schools to do more "courtesy" interviews that are already setup when there's an agreement. Anyone could easily decide to change his mind, so you don't sit back and take that chance. So, the situation could have easily happened.

Stop finding reasons to twist this stuff to make Al look all "Golden." Everyone with a brain realizes he wanted to go.

If a deal is agreed upon, you put the pen to the paper and there is no backing out and no additional interviews. BTW, if the scenario I described is how it really went down, that certainly doesn't make Al look any better. It means Penn State wasn't even sure about him. I think it's clear Al wanted the job, but when it wasn't a slam dunk for him to get the job after 2-3 days he decided to withdraw from consideration.

If Al was their top choice, he could easily come up with some BS statement on Sunday before he faces Miami media on Monday, and then " be a candidate for another job" come later in the week!

As I said, Munchak getting fired ****ed us real bad.

Golden is a fraud and PSU was our only hope.

When it happened, Medley posted that it felt like the Titans were doing him (or someone) a favor by firing him. After seeing Chris Mortensen's report on this, I totally agree. The timing was too suspect and Munchak's performance in Tennessee wasn't really fireable.

I don't follow the NFL much, but I did read that Munchak was told by his GM that he could keep his job if he fired folks from his staff.
At that point, he probably saw the writing was on the wall and he it was only a matter of time before he would get fired as well, be it next
season,whatever.
At that point, someone from PSU probably reached out to him which, I suspect, led to Munchak asking Tennessee to fire him.
Tennessee gets to look for their new HC and possibly not have to pay Munchak if/when he gets the PSU gig, and Munchak gets to return
home and gets at least 4-5 years of relatively little pressure (of getting canned).

ALso, Munchak played in (no-pun intended) Penn State's Golden era.
He won a national championship in 1982.
He was teammates with Matt Millen, Todd Blackledge and other former players who remain involved with the program,
and who follow college football....I'm guessing those guys like Al Golden the person, but probably realize he is not a good
coach for their alma-mater.
In summary, the timing of that firing was not coincidental at all.
Easy to connect the dots here, IMO.

Munchak actually reached out to Penn State when O'Brien was looking to leave.....along with Schiano and Franklin, although Schiano denied it b/c he still had a job with Tampa at the time.

As far as Munchak goes, he was forced to make changes to his staff last year, 9 changes we're made I beleive, most were made for him. This year, he was set to be retained, and the word around here was he was about to get paid, but they wanted more staff changes, the number I've heard is 12. He balked, they fired.

Titans brass started meddling with Fisher at the end of his tenure, Munchak was on staff. He was probably tired of the Titans intrusion. I don't think there was some plan to get the PSU job by him.

The recruits probably understand more than us. The take other recruiting trips even though they are committed to THE U. Al can blow it off that way: I looked around and THE U is the place for me. I really don't think Al got passed over. I think it the sticking point was Mark. If they just didn't want Al it would have been over faster. What seems most likely to me is they offerred Al but with condition "No Mark". Then 24 to 36 hours of negoitation and a little chicken. Al is nothing if not consistant, so Mark won and we lost. If we hear about another pay raise for Al then maybe I am wrong. Either way, PSU offered him. They are a "nester" school and Al is the most likely to stay forever. Franklin will head to NFL when given the chance and the Titan dude will go back asap.

Anyway, this site rules for breaking the real news first. It has become my ONLY source for Cane news. Thanks guys.

"Agreed Upon" and "Signed" are two different things. You can agree to something and not sign a contract for days. There has been occasions where a coach has agreed to something, it becomes quite public, then he balks on it the next day. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened.

Golden made is bed. Its win or ur out. No need in bashing him since he is gonna be the coach for atleast a year more. He still needs to can No D or he is pretty much writing his pink slip after the coming season.

It's funny reading many of you write about how he tried to slither away in the night and that PSU said thanks but not thanks......you have no clue. The PSU job was his if he wanted it. Trust me on that. You can speculate all you want just b/c you are p!ssed and want to justify his reason for staying, but you have no insight to the situation or process.

For anyone here to say he's a traitor for interviewing, i COMPLETELY disagree. He's a NJ native, a PSU grad and all his roots are in the Northeast. That was his home and dream job for many many years. Any one of us would at least listen about a job offer from our dream job unless we were 100% happy with our current job, which 99% of the population is not. Just b/c he didn't contact every single one of you every hour for an update is ridiculous. I would rather him stay quiet and not do the whole "i'm not going anywhere" thing like Saban until he was certain. Now we can move forward. First order of business, keep this recruiting class in tact and properly evaluate your staff and schemes. That is the only thing we can really criticize him for at the moment. That defense was BAD. That scheme is terrible.

I appreciate any thread that exhibits such common sense. Ok Saban's wife went and looked at real estate in Austin, and Saban is not nearly getting as much slack from the Tide fans as I am reading on this post. You people going in on Golden need to really quit. You cannot name a coach that would of did what he has done for this program through what he got blindsided with. It wasn't his battle but he took it on, and did it like a G. I live in Cincinnati, and I clearly see why I can see so many empty seats in the stadium. It is because of fans like I am seeing on these posts. We look bad, we look ignorant (one who ignores the truth). Do you not understand how bad we were last year. This team actually over achieved this year and I am sorry that caused so many of you to get your hopes up and think this team is something it is not. I dont like Dorito either, however let us not be ignorant. We do not have one DT that made an offense use a double team. I dont think anyone got double teamed all season, except maybe Shayon once or twice and he didn't get invited to the Combine. Talent was very bad guys are edge rushers I think are elite but can't get free because of this issue. Also depth is a problem. We hung in there with just about everyone who blew us out in the first half. Florida State, our defense caused issues for them, and Louisville for a stint. They got easily wore down and it led to alot of mistakes and miscues. It also led to Linebackers (which already had pretty poor covering skills) and D lineman getting man handled in the second half. Depth will fix a lot of D's problems, and if they were not fighting NCAA issues you would probably have seen a deeper team this year already. You might even like D with a team with any depth. Injuries plagued us down the stretch on offense and in the secondary. Chill out guys we are building.

Wow Joe Z *** that keeping Al is good for the team because it needs continuity. He was interviewed on wsvn last night.

So this was Golden's dream job, that he "lobbied" for, and "went after", and went "all in on", and he got a conditional offer, and then told PSU to f*ck off because he couldnt wait 24 more hours for them to finish the cursory interviews of Franklin and Munchak? If that was the only hold up, and the guy was that big of a snake, he could have said he had the flu and made up whatever bullsh*t he wanted to.

This sounds to me like he was willing to consider a PSU offer, becuase it was his home, and probably a HUGE raise, but in the end, it wasnt right for him, maybe his family wasnt crazy about it, and he didnt want to risk ******** up what he had here for it. If he was SO going after the PSU job, why wouldnt he wait another 24 hours?

I also have a tough time believing that PSU flew down here ASAP to meet with him, and didnt have a conditional offer at the LEAST to give him. They knew what the perception would be, and Im sure AG's agent made sure of that before they allowed for the "meeting". This isnt interviewing for a regional manager position at Best Buy here. 95% of this stuff is usually worked out behind the scenes LONG before any "meetings" and it becoming public like it was.

He pretty much defended D'Onfrio on WQAM this morning which means another year of 500 yards a game defense.

Golden doesn't have any killer instinct to be a HC. Doesn't want to make difficult decisions and wants to keep his BFF hired. I'm now indifferent about this program and the way it's headed. 9-4 and what's about 5 years behind FSU in terms of talent AND coaching. Can't wait to see the apologist next year when we have a 7-6 record.
