Kinda feel like the paranoiacs were waiting for anything to call out Big Country Searels over this reccruiting season. Give the man some credit.

We now have 3 elite guards with him, Scaife and Donaldson. It will be interesting to see how the tackle spots develope. Only knock on Coach is that we havent recruited an elite tackle prospect yet.

Yeah the lineman he’s been able to recruit have been high quality kids
2017 class
Consensus 4 starDonaldson
Consensus 4 star Herbert
4 star on a few sites Hillary
3star Gaynor
3star dykstra

2018
Consensus 4 star Scaife
Consensus 4 star reed
3 star John Campbell- high ceiling kid

Scaife has been discussed as being able to play tackle, as well as Donaldson

Yep handled many of the elite Des at the opening while playing tackle. He has that type of ability. He’s 6’4 which is short for a tackle but he can still play it

Yes, the ideal 2 depth chart is this:

LT- Herbert, Hillery
LG- Gaynor, Mahoney
C- Gauthier
RG- Donaldson, Reed
RT- St Louis, Scaife

Great news.

1 more OT in this cycle sounds about right - unless they could convince Meadows to jump on board.

Ideal for who?

I love Gaynor. Kid is mean and will make a nasty center when Gauthier leaves, but Scaife is going to be a starter on the o-line next year. A talent you can not keep off the field.

I'd be shocked if scaife isn't a starter

He’s approachiing Donaldson’s level imo, he’s that good

I think its a possibility, but dont know if those guys have ideal arm length for it.

Id like to see more athleticism on the lines over size. JMO.

As searles said yesterday, besides qb, starting at oline is the hardest position as a freshman. The odds of Scaife starting over gaynor or the freshmen from last year is slim. Those guys aren’t slouches and they’ll have a year of playing time and or strength training at UM under their belt.
Certainly if he comes in early, he has a chance.

Donaldson started as a freshman. Scaife is that same kind of talent, and coming in early just like Donaldson. .

Gaynor is great, but not an elite talent. Herbert is a tackle. Scaife should be a starter at guard.

Scaife taking someone’s lunch. Watch. It’s not like he’s walking into the 2001 UM OL meeting room.

better get him or someone else coached up and playing better than we did on the OL this year.

Per Searels, Donaldson is staying at Guard. We will need to replace the entire left side of the OL this year. Maybe move St. Louis to LT, so that RT up for grabs. Scaife or Herbert could be in the game for that spot?

That surprised me a bit. Searels put Donaldson as starting RT in his first practice last spring, so that was clearly his vision.

If Donaldson stays at guard, it could be a battle between Scaife, Hillary and Herbert for that RT spot. All three bring talent to the table.

In the article it’s says because the weights he’s at he’s staying at guard this year.
