On July 14, 2014
PLAYER: Ivan Smith
CLASS: 2016
POSITION: RB/WR
SCHOOL: Miami Christopher Columbus
HEIGHT: 5-11
WEIGHT: 175

SCOUTING: Having the opportunity to watch him a year ago, there is plenty of reason to believe that Smith is going to be one of those difference makers over the next two years for the Explorers. Such a tremendous talent – running out of the backfield as well as catching passes. From the first time you watch him play, you are immediately impressed at all the things he does. You never get a clear shot at him because of his running style. He is elusive and talented and knows exactly how to get the yards needed for this program that continues to make a statement.

CRYSTAL BALL: Smith has two full seasons to continue making an impression. College coaches who have watched him already know that as he continues to put on weight and get stronger, he will be a huge impact player.

Buzz: Tatum is starting to heat up in the eyes of the recruiters. He said he has offers from N.C. State, Tulane and Cincinnati, and it is easy to see why. He has long arms and said he has 10-inch hands. Expect his list to keep growing.

Nebraska has shown interest. Tatum has been to Florida State, UCF, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
Stanford, Miami and Cincinnati appeal to him early on.
Tatum grew up liking Stanford and Miami.
The 6-foot-7, 260-pound 2016 recruit carries a 3.6 GPA in AP courses.

Pahokee RB McArthur Burnett commits to Miami
February 16, 2015

Miami’s 2016 recruiting class keeps growing and growing — faster than any other in the nation.

The Hurricanes picked up their 17th commitment late Monday: Pahokee rising senior McArthur Burnett.

Burnett, listed at 6-feet and 180 pounds, is rated three stars by Rivals.com. He plays running back and cornerback for the Blue Devils. UM is recruiting him as a running back. He is the second running back in the class, joining Amir Rasul of Coral Gables High.

UM’s class is larger than any other class in the country, according to 247Sports.com. Miami’s group of 17 commits is nearly double the next-largest: Mississippi State, which has 9.

At this early juncture, the class is rated No. 1 by the 247Sports composite ratings.

Burnett is UM’s fourth 2016 commit from Palm Beach County, joining Wellington receiver Ahmmon Richards, Santaluces linebacker Zach McCloud and Dwyer receiver Isaiah Johnson, who committed Monday. All 17 commits are from Florida. Eleven are from South Florida.

I've decided to decommit from the University of Miami. Great staff and organization, but I feel like it's the best decision for me as of now

Since Tony Alford is now at OSU and they offered previously I assume they're in play for Chauncey Gardner along with Auburn and Miami. He visited on Junior Day.

We need Gardner in the class. Physical kid who has speed and can play corner or safety. He's transformed since his freshman year, put on a lot of muscle.

Byrd and Gardner had been talking from before when they were committed to UF, idk if they still do.

Lol like I mentioned in another thread.

247 got something up their butt with some south florida kids lately.

They

dropped Bruce out of the top 10 in the state and put him under Victor.

dropped Mullins all the way to 43 in the state and took away his 4 star.

dropped Snelson all the way to 103 in the state and took away his 4 star.

All 3 are top 10 receivers respectively through multiple sites and opinions nationally so I'm mind boggled right now.

The fact they have Brandon Johnson rated over Mullins and Snelson is crazy. Not even the same atmosphere as a prospect.

dropped Devin Bush Jr. all the way to 50 in the state and took away his 4 star.

and that's just a few very questionable ones they did. They have more.

They did bump up some that I agree with like Rice, Camp, Watts and others but some extremely questionable moves they did and even some kids who should be in the top state of florida kids who are not even in there.

It's still early in the process so I'm sure things will shake out correctly by the end.

Man, I expected these guys to go UP not DOWN.

Oh well, kids with a chip on their shoulder are better than ones who think they're all high and mighty because they got a high rating.

And how exactly are Keyshon Camp's two ratings so different? I mean I've seen high 3-star and low 4-star before, but I've never seen two ratings with such a wide gap (.8545 and 93)

If Hinson performs good adequate during a combine, he could be selected to play in a 2016 Army All-American Bowl.

“He deserves it,” Johnson said. “I wish to see him get a possibility to go there and contest with a large boys.

“It’s really outrageous for Deltona,” Johnson said. “I have had a ton of kids play for me that went on to play college ball, though I’ve never had one invited to this.”

Despite blank a initial dual games of a deteriorate and traffic with a damaged finger, Hinson has 15 catches for 203 yards and dual touchdowns.

Johnson pronounced he expects that Hinson (6-5, 220) will work out as a defensive end.

Hinson claims an offer from Iowa State, and Deltona partner David Williams pronounced Hinson has also been removing looks from Florida Atlantic, Michigan State and Arizona. Hinson is also an glorious basketball actor and claims an offer from Florida International in that sport.

MIAMI HURRICANES MAKE RECRUITING SPLASH WITH QUARTET OF OFFERS

The University of Miami made a splash in the Volusia/Flagler area Wednesday by offering a quartet of football players.
Warner Christian receiver Blake Hinson recevied an offer Wednesday to play football from the University of Miami.

Deltona junior defensive end/tight end Evan Hinson and his brother, Warner Christian receiver Blake Hinson, an eighth grader, both claimed offers from the Hurricanes as well as a duo of Mainland juniors, speedy tailback Adrian Killins and big offensive tackle Marcus Tatum.

“As far as the area, I think Volusia is slightly underrated,” Warner Christian coach DJ Mayo, who recruited the area for Warner University two seasons ago, said. “It’s not Dade or Broward, but I think it’s smart of Miami to get out here and get in the mix with some of these guys and get that buzz back.

“It’s obvious their goal was to do that, and now that’s going to also make other schools take notice.

Blake Hinson, a 6-foot-5, 205-pounder, also picked up an offer from North Carolina on Jan. 28. He had 24 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Evan Hinson (6-5, 220) also has an offer from Iowa State. Deltona coach Allen Johnson said Miami offered Hinson, who also is a basketball standout, as a tight end.

“That’s kind of the wave of the future, to find those basketball players who can play tight end,” Johnson said. “You look at Miami, and they have had success with that.”

Tatum (6-6, 255), who also claims offers from Iowa State, N.C. State, Tulane and Cincinnati, said he spoke with Miami offensive line coach Art Kehoe.

“He said they loved my run-blocking ability, and how nasty I was down the field,” he said. “They also liked my grades.”

Tatum said he has a 3.5 GPA.

Deltona's Evan Hinson had 35 tackles and three sacks, but his 2013 season was cut short when he broke his collarbone.

Deltona coach Allen Johnson said some of the country’s biggest colleges call him on a daily basis.

And, Johnson said, they all want to talk about rising junior linebacker Evan Hinson — a 6-foot-5, 200-pounder who doubles as a forward on the Wolves basketball team.

“Miami, South Florida, Louisville, Western Kentucky, UCF, South Carolina, Memphis ... there are just so many schools,” Johnson said. “Evan is a national recruit. The only reason you haven’t heard more about him is because he is still a sop****re.”

A broken collarbone shortened Hinson’s 2013 season, but he still managed 35 tackles — 12 for loss — and three sacks while showing off the explosive athleticism that scouts love.

He will be well-watched this spring, and Johnson said schools also want to see him at defensive end.

Evan Hinson grew up a fan of the Miami Hurricanes so, he said, committing to the school Friday was a dream come true.

“I think this is great,” the Deltona High two-sport standout said. “I feel blessed. This is something I’ve worked hard for so I’m happy.”

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound junior gave his commitment to the Hurricanes just two days after the school offered him a football scholarship. He said his decision was made, in part, because he was told he could pursue football and basketball.

“That was important to me,” he said.

Hinson said the Hurricanes recruited him as a tight end. Despite missing five games last season because of hamstring and finger injuries, he finished with 12 receptions for 223 yards and two touchdowns.

“As a tight end, I think Evan’s upside is going to be huge,” Deltona coach Allen Johnson said. “He’s a receiving tight end. He can catch the ball, he runs great routes, and he just knows how to get open.

“I think he could be right up there with the (Kellen) Winslows and the (Jeremy) Shockeys as far as what he could do at Miami.”

Hinson, who has a 6-foot, 9-inch wingspan, said he also is be open to playing defensive end where he recorded 25 tackles — 15 for loss — and five sacks last season.

“I went to Miami’s junior day last year, and they liked me at defensive end,” he said. “But then they saw my film from this year, and they liked me as a tight end.”

Johnson said he thinks Hinson could shine on the defensive side as well.

“Evan knows how to use his body and his long arms,” Johnson said. “Since he was a kid, growing up, he played every position. We’ve even had him play running back and wide receiver. He’s one of those rare, 6-5 guys that can get anything done.”

Hinson plays small forward for Deltona and is averaging 23.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

“I think he has a special trait that translates well to the next level, being a big guard that can shoot it,” Hinson’s father and Deltona basketball coach Denny Hinson said. “There is always a need for guards and wings that can shoot, and he brings that to the table.”

While Evan will attempt to play both sports, Denny said that could change after “a couple of years.”

“Or he could do it the whole four years,” Denny Hinson said. “I don’t think he will know what all is involved with trying to do it all in the ACC until he gets there.”

Hinson also had an offer from Iowa State in football, and had offers from Bethune-Cookman, Stetson, Florida International and Rutgers in basketball.

“A lot of schools were talking to him, but none of them made the push that Miami made,” Johnson said.

The second player to commit to the Hurricanes on Friday is a defensive back from their backyard.

James Wiggins, a rising senior from Homestead-South Dade High, committed to Miami hours after two-sport athlete Evan Hinson pledged.

Wiggins, who is unrated by the major recruiting websites, is a 5-11, 170-pound safety who attends the same high school that produced UM redshirt freshman receiver Tyre Brady. He also plays receiver.

UM now has three defensive backs among the 15 players in its 2016 class, including four-star corner Tyler Byrd and three star safety Devin Gil.

Next year’s class is rated No. 1 by the 247Sports.com composite ratings. Every p_layer_ is from Florida. Nine are from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Canes get yet another 2016 commit: wide receiver Isaiah Johnson of PB Dwyer

That distinctive Welcome to the U saying formerly tweeted by recently departed receivers coach/national recruiting coordinator Brennan Carroll popped up on Twitter in this form an hour ago: #Welcome2TheU , authored this time by University of Miami offensive coordinator James Coley.

The recruit, according to recruiting website InsidetheU: Palm Beach Dwyer wideout Isaiah Johnson, who switched his allegiance from Louisville to the Hurricanes.

"I had been talking to Miami since I went to the Junior day a few weeks ago,'' Johnson told the recruiting website. "I had a good feeling about them and I thought it was going in a good direction. I called Coach [Kevin] Beard and he started out by giving me the offer. He talked about his past, how he played with Andre Johnson, and how much he could teach me. I had dreamed about Miami since I was maybe 10 years old so that made me happy."

Johnson is the fourth wide receiver and 16th player committed to UM's 2016 class that is ranked No. 1 in the country. 247Sports.com has him as a three-star prospect with 791 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this past season.

Dwyer WR Isaiah Johnson commits to Hurricanes
February 16, 2015
Matt Porter, Recruiting.

Miami’s top-ranked 2016 recruiting class grew by one pass-catcher Monday.

Dwyer High’s Isaiah Johnson flipped his commitment from Louisville to UM, coach Jack Daniels said. Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound rising senior, is the fourth wide receiver to commit for 2016.

Johnson transferred from Glades Central to Dwyer last year and caught 36 passes for 641 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. He committed to Louisville in December.

Johnson is a three-star prospect on the 247Sports composite rankings. He also has offers from Illinois, North Carolina State and South Florida.

Joining high school teammate and highly-touted sop****re signal caller, Todd Centeio, 6-foot-4 Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer wide receiver Isaiah Johnson followed his heart and committed to Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes on Monday afternoon, flipping his pledge from Louisville.

Johnson, who snagged 39 catches for 791 yards and eight touchdowns for Jack Daniels and the 7-4 Panthers in 2014, is a lifelong fan of Miami who's brimming with joy to extend his stay in balmy South Florida.

"It's a nice school with great education," Johnson said. "It's my favorite school from when I was a kid and I always dreamed about playing for Miami. It's down the street because I'm from West Palm.

"I'm a home boy and it's a dream come true for me. Al Golden was just happy and we were talking for about 45 minutes and had a long conversation."

Johnson, who has fielded additional offers from the likes of Illinois, North Carolina State, South Florida, Temple and Utah State, is excited to build chemistry with Centeio leading up to their collegiate careers in nearby Coral Gables.

"It played a pretty big role (having Todd committed there)," Johnson said. "Playing together in high school, it carries over to the college level with us playing together right now. We can be together all of those years."
Scout's Take:

Measuring in at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds, Johnson is a fluid athlete with top-notch size for the position, as well as impressive deep speed. Johnson, who reeled in an offer from the Hurricanes just a few days ago, has a long frame that can pack on an additional 15-20 pounds without losing much athleticism moving forward.

The wide receiver is a load to bring down and runs crisp routes for such a big athlete. Johnson does a good job of planting his foot in the grass and extending plays by making defenders miss. Johnson is a matchup problem for defensive backs and has a lot of upside on the perimeter heading into his senior year.

Al Golden and his staff have placed a strong emphasis on attacking their backyard on the recruiting trail and have done an outstanding job doing so early on, with all 16 of their 2016 commitments hailing from the state of Florida.
