The frustrating part is how nothing changes. The next time I say something that contradicts the hivemind it will be met with condescending mockery and/or dumbvotes from the same bozos. I think I've put them all on ignore list by now though.

@HighSeas @GOCANES05 and @Calvin gave substantive reasons for liking this take based on traits they saw on film. Those are the winners. Everyone else that bashed him was wrong about him but the overall OL recruiting concerns were legit. We hadn’t exactly filled up classes with talent on the OL at that point.

It is a about a guy who only shows up when things are bad, an avowed gaytor, who has actually porsted here what an “amazing time“ he had cheering for the turds in the swamp when he was a student at UFailure, and how people have closed minds and jump on every opportunity, to run players down.

He’s posted that? We have gaytor alums here who are Cane fans but went to UiF on costs. So this is a gaytor alum and fan??? Like we know for a fact that he literally roots for the turds over the Canes?

There are dudes in the draft like this and in the league year after year.
We all love 5 stars and players with 40 times and all that.
But one thing that you can’t measure is heart and determination.
Just like navy seals talk about that you can’t tell who’s gonna make it through BUDs, no one can tell how far a young man is going to take whatever talent he has.
We all get into arguments about development but how can you develop something that has little desire to be developed or the work ethic or grit to will their development?

Someone please name me a player that took more sht and social media slander than this young man.
Please tell me who was getting their *** kicked as a freshman game after game at one of the most vital positions on the field.
He didn’t cry or complain. He didn’t quit.
He worked on his craft and took care of what he could and forgot about what he couldn’t control.
How many players have gone through this program and folded the minute any little bit of adversity came their way?

There is no star rating or recruiting guru that can identify what makes Zion tick.
But we want and need more of it.

Zion didn’t start until week 3. He wasn’t a full time starter at LT until the final 6 games. He allowed 2 sacks in those final 6 games along w/ 5 QBP. Still a massive improvement from yr. 1, but let’s not over exaggerate. Lol

His PFF graded at 79.7 over those last 6 games ranked him as the 3rd best LT during that time in the ACC & the 12th best LT in P5 overall.

I read that. PPF did not credit him with surrendering a sack. Even if he did give up two sacks, that still makes him one of the best pass protectors in the nation

The people who were high on Zion recognized he was a project with athletic traits. Our old staff started him at LT as a TF. Because they didn't have any better options. Because they failed to evaluate/recruit/develop a better option. That was the issue.

Impressed by the strides last season. Looking forward to seeing him flourish as a junior. But if I'd never seen him outside of mop-up duty his TF season it would've meant the program was in a better place.

Whenever multiple knowledgeable dudes like me, @HighSeas , @gogeta4 , @Liberty City El , @Cribby , and the guy from Orlando all think somebody has talent they work out. We all thought Zion just needed a weight room and 1-2 years. I think we shoot 100 if we all agree on somebody.

He gained 50lbs as a frosh dude. He did look like a basketball player. And he’s still gotta lot to prove to live up to this years offseason hype. I’d sure love to see him live up to McShays ranking. If he does, that means we running on Bama.

I'm a big fan of Nelson too but let's wait til after this season to see if he's truly an elite day1/2 talent or simply an above average p5 tackle. For some reason the first play of the spring scrimmage where Deandre blew past him gives me the jeebies

I agree here. The odds are still against him being an All ACC, AA type player this year. He'd have to take another massive step forward to make that happen.

That said, the kid has the measurables now, and he seems like one of the hardest workers, most willing to learn types. Coaches love his grit. So his floor should be his better games last season and his ceiling is very high.

If Nelson takes that step, Donaldson is healthy and fit, and Rivers gets to 2020 Nelson quality snaps, our line starts to look pretty nasty (good nasty). Scaife/Williams and Gaynor would go from our best OL starting last season to our worst.
