Class Impact: Leonard Taylor to Miami

Same. Crazy to see how much we've fallen when it comes to being able to recruit elite kids nationally. Now we don't even consider a 5-star an option unless he's local.

Wasn't that long ago we were always in the running for the top kids around the country, The Brown brothers, Seantrell Henderson etc... but **** it feels like forever ago
We have never landed too many 5 stars nationally. yes there have been a couple but more the exception not the norm.

Yeah def wouldn't call it the norm for us ever. We would maybe pluck a few but it was never our m.o. like in Bama or Ohio State.

I also disagree with your examples. Henderson we got as a transfer after the USC sanctions, neither Brown bro worked out for us. We did get Phillips last year which IMO would be equal to a Henderson pull. Last year Maason smith had us in his top 3. Flowe the year before that, Darnell Washington took multiple visits and camped here, Haselwood prior to that, Evan Neal, dark horse for Pickens, Lingard, I think Brevin was maybe justttt short of a 5 star, devonta smith, and that doesn't include all the local talent.

I am not trying to body bag you, I agree our recruiting overall the last decade is not up to par but last few years have been aight and I am not into "participation awards" for just being at the table, but I am also not into exaggeration or embellishment saying "we dont even consider a 5* an option unless he is local" as the above examples from just the last 3 cycles suggest otherwise.

Fwiw Henderson didn’t transfer. He signed with USC and changed his mind before he ever enrolled. They let him out if his commitment and he was here for the entirety of his college academic and football career. The rest is spot on. We are in the game and if we close out of those two seasons without ****ting the bed, we land some serious talent. Fwiw crazy to think both Georgia and us had Pickens behind Haselwood SMH

I recall saying at the time i wasn’t that high on haselwood. (Don’t recall having a view on pickens.) It’s hard to chase oos kids for positions we evaluate badly, and we’ve evaluated wr badly.

Haselwood was literally lining up with 2 guys in his face and still killing teams. I thought he was gonna be a stud. Oh well. Bama was recruiting him at safety for whatever that’s worth. Pickens is a beast he’s just a head case

wr is about hands, body use, toughness, short area explosiveness. Guys who fight for the catch - not just the ball, but the position to Get to it. Haselwood was smooth and had speed but iirc not physical and not explosive.

I thought he was physical. He wasn’t explosive though. Wasn’t a speed WR.

My recollection was not very physical. As in didn’t like the contact. Haven’t rewatched film, just what i recall.

On explosiveness, some guys are explosive without being fast. Elijah Moore I think is that. Quick but not truly fast.

Yea he was more of a contested catch guy, who used his size and body well in my opinion. Definitely wasn’t a burner or even particularly explosive in short areas.

Is he better than Jadeveon Clowny?

(I know Clowny was mostly hype and it seems like that type of crazy over the top hype for prospects has died down as recruiting coverage has become big business.)
Out of high school? No. college? remains to be seen.
