CIS reacts to Jai Lucas being Miami's new head coach

So, we are again hiring a first-time head coach (whom Duke passed over for that position) instead of a proven head coach…..

I hope he becomes our coach K but it feels like we settled-again……
Duke didn't pass over him. It was clear Scheyer was being groomed for when coach K stepped down

Miami’s basketball program is an absolute dumpster fire. They were lucky to get who they got.
We made an E8 three years ago and a F4 two years ago. Why do I keep reading comments like this? Some of our “fans” act like this program has never had success, or hasn’t seen success in decades. We aren’t BC. We aren’t Nebraska. We aren’t DePaul. While we are far from a Blue Blood, this program has had very recent elite results. We could’ve and should’ve done better than this.

Overall, it’s a D+ hire on paper.

Miami lost its last 10 conference games in a row to end last season. They’re 2-14 in conference play this season. They are 2-24 in their last 26 conference games. They had a chance to lose every conference game this season and set the record for the most consecutive conference losses in major college basketball history, but they couldn’t even accomplish that.

If it’s a D- hire, it’s because C- didn’t want the job.

I’m from Illinois, my old man is an alumni of the same high school Scheyer went to and have followed his career since high school when he dropped 21 points in a minute at the legendary proviso Christmas tournament in front of coach K. The dude is legitimately a world class human being and incredibly sharp guy. Idk much about Jai but if this is how Scheyer honestly feels about him I’m going to choose optimism.

Lucas wasn’t on any of my lists. Somehow, I’m not disappointed though about the hire however.

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. I think it’s only fair

We are absolute dog **** right now. No one is denying that. But we just made a F4 two years ago. For as quickly as things fell apart, things could come together again just as quick with the right coach and resourced in place, especially in the NIL era.

Lucas has no head coaching experience. I am concerned with this hire but in wait and see mode. It takes more than just recruiting to win in college now. I hope miami got it right with Lucas but I am concerned. I felt we could have got someone more proven given we made the final four just 2 years ago.

Hi friends,
I feel like Miami is making a major mistake with this one. Louisville went through the same hopeful emotions when we hired Kenny Payne but we soon realized that experience building one’s own program is more relevant than recruiting to an established program and brand. Often, that type of recruiting experience can actually be a hindrance (when recruiting to an established brand and coaching staff, your reputation precedes you and you already have a foot in the door before you even start recruiting. You can also look at your new school unfavorably compared to your old school, given you don’t have the same built in advantages). I genuinely hope it works out better for you and I think Miami basketball is important for reasserting the ACC’s dominance.

And we aren’t the program Louisville is in hoops. This has a pretty low chance of success imo

Mike Balado would be the name he’s looking for and Mike is very much alive

fellow ACC members are not happy. SEC is lapping the ACC, and its hurting conference perception. With Miami, FSU, UVA all needing new HC's, it was an opportunity to upgrade, and we failed miserably.

I can't put into words just how bad this hire is
