Chris Johnson jr to smu

From the very very little information that I know.
Some of the dudes that left were upset that they’ve been there busting their assses and doing all the right things but Mario wasn’t promising any starting time to anyone not named tvd.
Also, some were not very happy with the transition from Manny to Mario.
It was a huge transition.

I don’t know and I never heard of Mario actually telling a player to bounce, but I’m sure it’s happened. I just don’t know who they are. But I doubt he told the more talented players that they had to leave cause they were not good enough to play here. They may have also been some disciplinary issues that manny didn’t mind but were a huge deal for Mario (that’s just me speculating).
I would also imagine that Lashley saw an opportunity to poach with nil considering all the new money that any wanted to spend on the program.
Yep - you’re in the right direction. Mario is a bit more “strict” about how early you show up to class and doesn’t play the missing class stuff, for any reason. You get used to things being a certain way a the new boss comes and is more of a disciplinarian than you’re accustomed, plus he’s not giving guarantees on playing time based on past performances - and the mass exodus we saw makes perfect sense.

Cal had a terrible offense all year. Let’s not pretend they had all these talented superstars who got hurt. The only ACC team they broke 30 points against besides Miami was Wake Forest.

How many Louisville guys were hurt when SMU held them to 20 points fewer than Miami?
Cal had a terrible offense but Mendoza was supposed to carry them himself? he was sacked 41 times and one of the most pressured qbs in the country with barely any healthy skill players around him.

Lyles is explosive and nows how to play running back, Pringle the same. We were a leader in the country at rb yards per carry.
So what were we suppose to do, create plays for a kids when we didnt need to? I dont get it, it's not like we were a bad offense.
In spring game the kid was running straight into the back of offensive lineman, you and I both thought Wheatley-Humphrey looked better.
I get utilizing this kid but we just didnt need too.
Lyle is a better natural rb than CJ if you have to explain that to people than you can’t help them. I was high on CJ coming out of HS but my issue was frame, if he got tackled by arms in cfb he was cooked. Hes fast but short area burst isn’t elite, he can do well at SMU but we got Lyle who is better and we just added Pringle. I don’t understand people crying because he runs a 4.2. He was given an infinite amount of chances especially on kick return and he would get tripped up. He had to transfer he was going to get passed up, anyone could see.

He can be real good at SMU but the minute they play an elite DL with talent or a sec squad he’s done, a blade of grass will tackle him. He will stat pad against lesser teams in the acc though

Well if anyone can get some production it's Lashlee

I didn't worry about the loss of Knighton. I worry much less about the loss of CJ. Brashard was a different beast altogether. We definitely failed him here.

I tried telling people CJJ was just a gadget player before the season. His speed is a weapon but he’s limited as a running back. You need a creative coach to draw plays up for him. He will have some big plays playing for Lashlee but he’s not going to be their starting running back. He’s a track guy who plays football not a football player who runs track.

His advantage at SMU is the spread. He'll have a lot more space. We play these tight and bunch sets that our backs need a lot of wiggle and as you noted short area burst to maneuver through. I don't expect him to do well anywhere because he goes down when the wind blows on him. But if he can do well, it's in a scheme like SMU.

Our run offense consists of handing the ball to the running back and the offensive line just pushing him forward for five yards. Not a good fit for a guy like Johnson.

Don’t worry, when we get five star players at every single position we’ll finally be able to be as good as the team full of players who weren’t good enough for us.

really? we were among the leaders national in yards per carry. do you watch football or do you just skim through it?

Besides Brashard Smith who on the SMU roster from Miami was a really good player that Mario should not have let get away? The other players that left were marginal. Maybe JHH could have contributed. You only have so much NIL money to go around. Not everybody is a fit. The portal works both ways.
people don't realize Manny wanted to be kids friends. Kids would not practice or participate if they didnt feel like it. He'd let them do whatever to keep them. Mario doesn't tolerate that stuff. it doesnt means kids left because they weren't talented, some had to go because it's his way or the highway.

As much as I've soured on Guidry this year - literally every DC drops DEs into coverage.
Elijah Roberts, JHH and Jafari Harvey have all been good players for them. Maybe they’re not superstars but considering SMU had a way better defense than Miami, we probably could have used them. We probably could have kept all three of those guys for what we payed Tyler Barron.
None of these players would have been any better than the putrid performance we witnessed to our horror this past season: Replace Guidry with a DC with a pulse, and watch two-star talent be competitive. The guy lives in a bubble.

They have like 5/6 Miami guys starting fort them and more in the rotation. Oh and they’re in the playoff while Miami is in the Pop Fart Bowl. I know we must defend the staff at all costs but SMU is doing just fine with our guy’s. A lot of the same comments on CJ are the same ones made on Brashard and the others.

Brashard and some of the others made plays here. Cj may need a change of offense. What people fail to realize is the kids that transferred, not all left because they weren't "good enough", they left because of the change in staff. Alot of those kids had free reign under Manny and playin for a guy like Mario is not for everyone.

So I think it’s a combination of things. While Mario’s style is probably good, but then he has to back it up with substance when it comes to implementing the talent. You can’t just depend on discipline to produce on the field, you have to put the talent in position to make plays. The D was out of position all season long.

Only one besides brashard would be Robert’s. They are all the same players that left here. People just blindly hate now for no reason.

Jhh is still an undersized dt with poor gap integrity will get tfls but gets wrecked in the run game.

Harvey tied his career high sacks of 5.

Jakai Clark is somehow second team all acc but got abused.

Keyshawn and Romello are the same mental midgets coming up with costly penalties for that Clemson game.

Rooster banged up this year but didn’t do much prior besides fumbling.

another thing, as much as people hate fletcher. you have an NFL back in Martinez and then Fletcher who came off a broken foot and averaged 5.6 yards a carry and 11 yards per catch. Lyles and Ajay were both ahead of Cj too. I think we were fine at RB. Mark is not a 4.2 but he's productive.

SMU had a Mac level strength of schedule. Let's see how they do next year.
