Chris Johnson as a returner

He could easily house one at any time moving forward. But to this point he hasn’t shown the decisiveness or instincts in the open field that we all expected to see from a player with his measurables. And I don’t know if that’s something that’s gonna change.

Bingo. If he hits a seam and takes off, he can house one. But, open field wiggle or quickly changing directions, is not his wheelhouse. I would like to see RayRay also get some touches. I know there’s not enough balls to go around but I sure would love to get the ball to RRJ in space and see what he can do.

With the way the game is being officiated, it is almost impossible to break these long returns. You're better off putting a sure-handed, smart returner back on punts and kicks and not try to mess things up too badly. There isn't a Devin Hester in the game right now and hasn't been for some time.
Well, when you’ve lived through the succession of Santana Moss, Roscoe Parrish, and Devin Hester with some Daryl Jones and Sean Taylor sprinkled in along the way, it’s hard to let go of the idea that Miami should have real difference-makers on PR and KOR.

I’ve said it repeatedly, Robby Washington is the most natural and dynamic kick and punt returner on the team by far. It’s not even close. Why he’s not getting to return either of these is a mystery.

I would love for @DMoney to chime in if he has any knowledge on why Robby has not been given a chance at either KOR or PR.

You forgot Tremain Mack. He was a great returner, too.

For hester you mean on kickoffs right? Because pretty sure he is still juking some players from Duke from a few punt returns lol

I think CJ is doing fine, Yes he has not housed one wet but he has come close a few times, and has decent returns. Also who else you gonna put back there? Robby would be the only other guy and I think he is more shifty than fast.
Robby is both shifty and fast. Not as fast as C.J., but plenty fast to house one. His short area explosiveness is elite, and can cut on a dime without losing speed.

He’s almost broke one a few times and now he’s slow and/or sucks?

Or scared?

This fan base deserves NOTHING.

I’d Willie Wonka the lot of you’ll ***galoons for your ******* incessant negativity and nit picking of this team.
Agreed. Someone even ridiculously claims he's "terrible."

Sure, he's got room for improvement...but that improvement will come from reps. Occasionally he's a little tentative trying to see where the blocking lines up, but he's still good and will get better.

He's too timid. When he's approaching the blockers, you literally see him slow down too much and try to dance around. Instead of just hitting the hole full speed.
Agreed. While this is true, he has still done a solid job. Keep giving him the reps and let him build that comfort level to where he can be more aggressive

maybe he drops the ball?

Is it me or does he not look comfortable returning kicks? He may be a burner but he doesn't look like he knows how to return kicks.
I get what you’re getting at.

I think a more articulate way to put it for the masses would be CJ has all the physical tools to be dynamic on returns but has shown very few glimpses of game breaking play.

To me he looks tentative. Not saying the blocking has been ideal but he’s playing slower than one would hope. Definitely not saying he’s scared either.

It’s a rare guy who masters that responsibility while being dynamic. It’s pretty clear he covets space and KO’s are a difficult place to find that. Hope it changes but as many points we give up and KO’s there are, one would hope we could bust a few during the season.

He’s good. People thought Andre Johnson sucked as a KR. CJ will take one to the house before years end.
