Chris Johnson as a returner

Is it me or does he not look uncomfortable returning kicks? He may be a burner but he doesn't look like he knows how to return kicks.

I can't speak to comfort or discomfort, but I am confused as to why he is always running up the middle. I'm not saying he will break every return, but you'd think that with his speed he would bounce a few to the outside where he can outrun guys who suddenly have to reverse all their momentum.

And that is not a complaint, per se. I am basically happy with where we stand, he has not fumbled, etc., but I would love to see him cut outside a couple of times and make guys chase him.

Almost....stop it with all the speed he supposedly has why hasn't he broke a return?
No shade some people just are not cut out for returning kicks. It takes a special kind of mind set to get back there and not have a **** given and to be lethal at it!!

Look man, if you’re going to troll, it needs to be more subtle.

It’s like playing just the tip with a broad.

You got too excited and went whole hog too fast. Relax, breathe, stay patient, and expose the troll slowly.

I mean he was a 3 star... people act like only having elite speed means a superstar, there's other factors that make a great player, not saying he can't get better and become something more.

While I somewhat agree with you…. Let me say this. I believe that at this point in CJ’s career, he lacks the necessary instinctive abilities to be an “elite” kick returner….. but he’s young and can gain those attributes with time. But…..

WE “Canes Fans” are spoiled rotten! That mid 80’s to the 90’s, then again in early 2000’s run has blurred our reality!!

Understand this. The Hester, Moss, Taylor, etc’s of the world, are no longer “hidden talents”.

Recruiting has dawned upon a new day. Those talents will never “fall” into are lap again.

Enjoy the past. Respect the past. But understand that the past is just that. Every year will be a dogfight in recruiting. By way of technology and NIL, the playing fields have been leveled (somewhat). Only the strong will survive.

He's terrible
Is this sarcasm? Sorry, new-ish here lol. If not, what element do you think he is missing from his return game? I will say he has a terrible habit of stopping and accelerating around blocks to beat angles, because he is young, instead of just putting his foot in the ground like Brashard Smith. That's it, to me. Personally, give me a timid, consistent, 15-20 yp/kr guy who doesn't fumble near the opponents' field side. He's shown to be more than that in my opinion.

The board's obsession with punt and kick returns is misplaced. A review of national statistics will show you that both types of great returns are the overwhelming exception. They used to say the same thing about Berrios when, infact though not overwhelming, he led the ACC in punt returns.

Are you honestly questioning his speed? Because if so, I'm 100% questioning your intelligence
Show me where I question CJ speed....I acknowledge he has the speed to be great at returning kicks, I but do do question heart!! Speed with no heart gets you the results shown!!

CJ has a tendency to stutter step as a returner. This works for RB’s but returners have to just put a foot down and go, and make cuts at full speed like Hester.

Hester never tried to juke anyone. He moved fast and kept his speed while cutting.

CJ just needs to trust his speed

Returning kicks takes a special skill/mind set and a relentless to take it to the house no matter what!! Blocking be **** you have to want to make a difference every time you are asked to return kicks.

For hester you mean on kickoffs right? Because pretty sure he is still juking some players from Duke from a few punt returns lol

I think CJ is doing fine, Yes he has not housed one wet but he has come close a few times, and has decent returns. Also who else you gonna put back there? Robby would be the only other guy and I think he is more shifty than fast.

He's definitely hesitant/tentative at times, but don't you dare question the ability of any player on this all-time great team.

With the way the game is being officiated, it is almost impossible to break these long returns. You're better off putting a sure-handed, smart returner back on punts and kicks and not try to mess things up too badly. There isn't a Devin Hester in the game right now and hasn't been for some time.

He could easily house one at any time moving forward. But to this point he hasn’t shown the decisiveness or instincts in the open field that we all expected to see from a player with his measurables. And I don’t know if that’s something that’s gonna change.
This is what I should have posted. I agree 100% with you.
