Chickillo as a DT?

Here's my rant from 12/17 on the "How It May Look..." thread.

Chick has a small frame for a DE, let alone DT. I'm not sure why people think moving him inside is the answer... just because he's not fast? That doesn't mean he needs to be a defensive tackle. I guess we could try him in that "move the DE to DT on passing downs" role that never seems to work, but I don't see the point in that. Better option, I think, is to let him get comfortable with the added pounds, continue developing, and get another DE with a pulse who can spell him. His game is all about giving 110% effort and capitalizing on lapses from the other side. Not even a cyborg could have maintained that wildman style with the # of snaps he took. We had NO ONE to give him a breather - especially in games against average or above average opponents. You take that away from him and you take away the thing that makes him more than just a JAG. Feel bad that our fan base doesn't recognize that and is ready to slam the guy so quickly... the kid is all heart and giving all he's got, he's in a bad position.

If Green and Chick are our starting DE's next year come opening day we are in trouble. Two kids with alot of heart but overmatched at this level.

I didn't intend this thread to slam the kid, as I pointed out in the op he's one of my favorite players on the team. I just want him in the best lace to succeed, if that is at DE with less weight I'm all for it. Agree that the number of snaps he was forced to play probably played the biggest factor on his slow development and I seemed to overlook that issue this year. It's the off-season and I' trying to keep some conversation going.

I hear you man, please note that was a copy/paste from another thread replying to different people. It's all good, these boards are for discussion. I openly admit that I'm an idiot and wrong a whole lot.

would u say green is the better de now of the two? greens numbers were better...anyway, my concern is this, is chick asking coaches what they want him to do in the system and then trying to gain or drop weight accordingly or is he going to figure his body out for himself? i guess being multiple means it should be based his optimal size, speed combo

If Green is better than Chick then Chick needs to voluntarily relinquish his scholarship. Green is a warrior and a true Cane, but he's a horrible DE. He's to DE what Jeff Popovich was to Safety.

Chick will turn it around when the overall DL gets better, stronger and deeper.

I imagine he will benefit a great deal from a healthy curtis porter.
Ahhhhhh.... "bingo"
I am always surprised that those who watch football forget it's a team game. There are very few greats who can do it alone. Chick isn't great, but with help and a HEALTHY offseason, he is a better than good DE. The kid was hurt, alone and overworked last season. IMHO

Good post. Our fan base gives up on players ridiculously quick which is odd because guys like Streeter, McGee, etc have come on late in their careers after shaky starts. ****, Gaines was pretty **** good at the end of the year.

Chick is one of the last guys I'm worried about. Like your post touched on he just has to get used to his weight, get a few more rests, and get a little help and he will be fine. He is definitely not a DT

If bond becomes a bona fide pass rusher with close to double digit sacks it will benefit chick tremendously

This. Now can we stop already, he's not gonna be a full time DT, only 3 & long passing situations at best.
