Chevis Jackson's Impact on Recruiting

It's important to realize mikes role now is being a recruiter. That's literally what he does. Before anyone starts he's not only recruiting DBS. He recruits regionally. I think Mike would've been amazing as a DB coach under Mario. People always wanna put recruiting failures on him previously and that's fine. However it is a fact that he had to go through both Mandy and the bartender before he could even communicate with a kid. Two morons in front of him and horrible communication throughout simply leaves it at we got exactly what we saw. He was a great position coach. Had DBS playing above their heads and was developing cbs and safeties. That's what I want on staff now. Luckily Jackson seems to have hit the nail on the head.

@Brooklyndee it’s off topic, but I’d like your opinion on our defense by position group for the 2024 season. I know the future is bright. Just wondering how good you think we’ll be in defense this season?

At least that many, especially the national recruits like Samson, Francis, Riley Williams. Not to mention the portal guys. No shot at Ward, Martinez or Brown or Powell.

Maybe we still get some of the local guys liIke Wes and Chance but they would have been the class headliners.
Manny played the portal better than Mario does so the portal part i think wouldve remained the same.

everything i agreewith else.

Mario has 5x the recruiting structure and willingness to go at it himself on particular recruits.

Based on what? He definitely was better in the portal than he was at high school recruiting (which says a lot) just curious what would make you say he was BETTER at it.

A lot of it is attributed to the money. But not just as to Chevis Jackson, but rather as to every assistant and head coach in college sports. Some people are better sales people than others, we all know this. But the vast majority of people are really good at sales when they are selling something really good, and the amount of money a player can receive, whether under the table or over the table, is a really, really good selling point.

My nephew is attending UM to play under Coach L and to play meaningful basketball games in March/April, But there is ZERO chance he ends up at UM if UM did not also offer a very competitive NIL package (and frankly the most of any school). Coach L and his assistants also did a nice job of selling the offense and my nephew’s role as well as making sure he felt wanted. But would any of that have mattered if UM could not at least be in the same NIL ballpark? I doubt it.

I’m just happy that we are out of the wilderness and able to offer competitive NIL packages which then allows our head coach’s personality and tenacity to come through. So in summation, Chevis deserves credit, but MIke Rumph might have been able to produce similar results had he had the same financial backing and an HC like Mario.

I would love to get @Brooklyndee’s opinion as to how well Rumph would have done as a recruiter under the present system.
Mario makes everyone recruit well unless you’re just a bad position coach no one wants to play for. Addae must of been either a mute or awful to be around.

He was on guys faster in the portal. We are kind of on certain kids fast and not seeing needs at times with mario until a possible second wave.

He has a 1st rd pick out the portal, a wr who broke records, etc.

He did that without having to pay millions as well pre nil.

Way less filler...Mario has a portal class where 8.....8 of them didnt play one significant snap as a hurricane.

Im hoping this portal class is the turn around. It appears to be.

Same as I've been said. Our defense this season (beyond potential injuries)is dependent on #1 how fast the defensive tackles on the team can mature & play at a serviceable level. #2 the safety group is inexperienced to put it mildly & is dependent on how quickly the tackles can excell & optimize the line play. Luckily Justin Scott in particular seems to be FAR ahead of the curve and artavious Jones is also physically further along then we'd assumed he'd be at this point. Safeties definitely worry me until we at least get consistentcy up front. Past that I look forward to what we're putting on the field.

I'm not gonna give any lectures here brother cause you know the differences between them and now. Yet you're choosing not to acknowledge them. I won't get into all the rest. I'll just leave it at I disagree he was better at anything than Mario when it relates to talent acquisition.

Nah. Addae just showed no effort into the social side of it all. Whether it was recruiting or with his own position groups. He was here to coach & that was that. No effort at all in building relationships with players or recruits.

I knew it had to be something like that

I would have agreed to this before season

We lit up the portal this season…Or at least we bought some great players.

Looking forward to this comparison of Manny in the portal to Mario to stop

Everything has changed with recruiting the last 2-3 years
Not sure if this is a prequel to a lecture or not. That's the common sense in this. There is no comparison. Not only between the coaches, but far more importantly between what went into recruiting then opposed to what goes into recruiting now. For some reason people feel the need to constantly hold on to the past 20 years or so. If that's what it takes to get through your day run with it. But for me I've been over and done with it for about 20 years to be honest with you.

We got like a month till we play UiF in their house

To see Manny Diaz name come up here is wild to me but 🤷🏼‍♂️

In my eyes I wouldn't care if the season finished yesterday there's no reason for Mandy Diaz's name to ever come up on a University of Miami website again. It's a point in our history that fans should be more than happy to wipe from their memories... And all these comparisons are simply people being disingenuous.

The one thing ive always stated was Manny was pretty good in the portal..his hs recruiting wasnt hitting enough or development was putrid. But to say he wasnt goofd in the portal wpuld be disongenuous

Its not to take anything off of Mario, who ive stated is 5x the recruiter..manny was better at it than alot of other coaches.

This year portal class is beastly.
