Syracuse vs UConn:

Apparently our talent is equal to or worse the above three teams. This is what folks have to believe if they don't think Guidry is the biggest problem.

None of the CB's were his.

He didn't recruit or sign, a single starting CB on this roster. These are all Addae's Corners.

That's like blaming Mario Cristobal for not being able to win with Manny Diaz's team in 2022.
And to be fair, that’s why there’s such a focus on DB in this class. The cupboard is pretty barren.

Our best corner was a true freshman that he didn’t recruit which tells me he can develop talent fast enough to contribute immediately. He is attached to Guidry so he might be gone no matter what.

He is the one D coach that is hard to criticize to much. I assume he gets some blame on Hill being brought in. Guidry is getting the S blame. I would think Guidry played a role in Powell and Hill being brought in. Powell looked like a different player at UW playing mostly Nichel and did they see how slow he was? How come players looked so different on other teams? How come the whole D regressed across the board? Guidry only ran a version of his attacking style of D at UF and the 2nd half of Wake all season. That tells you everything on his thoughts on our back end talent. No interest in rewatching non P4 games to see. I get he couldn't run his D, but the rest of his failures are unexceptable.
DL?
LB?
These coaches have to coach his D which may not be how they would do it. Does Taylor want his edge in coverage? Does D Nick want his Will or the S setting the edge because the edge is stunting all game? At the same time, their is still clearly position coaching failures. If I am evaluating D position coaches, none get a above average grade. That might be to kind.
Powell has always been mid. He played on a terrible UW D last year. Most just ignored that because they were hype to get someone from a playoff team.

Ryan Walter’s HC of Purdue was fired. He has been DC at Missouri and Illinois. He’s young and had a good D at Illinois. I’d kick the tires.

Richt won with Al Goldens team. I distinctly remember fans saying the defense was utterly devoid of talent because of how bad they played under DNo. Diaz somehow made into a decent defense. It is possible to win with another coaches players. And even when there is a lack of talent, I think there are ways to get more out of them through simple things like making sure they know how to line up correctly.

I remember something scumbag Urban Meyer said about inheriting players and it stuck with me

"Everybody wanted me to say Jim Tressel left the cupboard bare," Meyer told CBSsports.com. "If I heard any assistant coach [say that], they'd be gone. You're done. Those are your players. I hear TV guys [say], 'Wait until they get their own players in there.' They're our players. What do you mean 'their players?' The minute you sign a contract, they're your players. You didn't choose me, I chose you. You're mine, absolutely."
