Chantz Williams setting records in weight room

I've been really impressed with Feeley. At first, this seemed like a rushed hire but boy was I wrong.

If Manny can figure this thing out and get us back to where we need to be there's no doubt in my mind that Feeley would be one of the biggest catalysts in helping us get there.

I dont think he has a choice but to step up. Who else do we have behind Harvey and DJ especially if the rumors are true about Cam? McCloud?

Deandre and Jafari will be very productive in this scheme with Simpson coaching if they both stay healthy.

I say McCloud and Chantz will be the primary backups.

Jafari has shown the flashes, now its about being stronger, and having better technique to be consistent. He had 2 TFL's vs. Clemson, showed some flashes with TFL in Duke game, again sack and fumble caused in Bowl game, and then this spring he had a sack where he stunted inside was a blur to the QB, not sure if refs called it a sack, but he ran by and tagged QB.

DE will be a committee IMO. I think manny is gonna have the dline way more focused on being gap sound and a lot of different guys will have sacks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see guys we don’t expect getting in there and getting sacks at 5 tech or end. I.e I can see towards the end of the season LT at end In packages.

If y’all remember, in third down they went 3 down lineman with Greg at nose in 19. I could see them doing similar this year with a 3 man grouping of Harvey/Johnson/LT/Chantz (big long dline) and etc in obvious passing downs. And then bringing in another safety/db (Williams/carter/one of the corners)

I bet we see a lot of non traditional packages we have not seen before.

  • "The sole pursuit of max strength numbers is a disservice to the development of your athletes.

  • Develop your athletes’ abilities to move, and move fast, above everything else in training."
That's from Kurt Hester... I don't want to post the link for the interview...Not sure if that's allowed but anyone here interested in S&C should look up his stuff and read.. Really good S&C guy..... Thought we had a shot with him before we got Feeley but he wanted to stay in La.Tech.... Then his guys beat us in a bowl 14-0... It was obvious that they were in way better shape than we were....

First of all, the quote literally says "The sole pursuit". No strength coach is solely working to improve his players' max strength and nothing else. It's not the 1970's anymore. Secondly every single weight room in the country has max weight lifting records. My high school weight room had max records on the wall and I guarantee that Louisiana Tech's does also.

Secondly, Miami didn't lose that bowl game because Louisiana Tech was in better shape. They lost because they had a terrible offensive scheme, a quarterback who didn't care about his team at all and an offense that had checked out on the season weeks earlier.

"Develop your athletes' ability to move and move fast" I'd bet any amount of money that position for position, Miami athletes move faster than Louisiana Tech's.

Yep. I watched a bunch of his videos on YouTube of him explaining his training philosophy. He basically created an algorithm of physical benchmarks for every position group to reach regarding maximizing their physical potentials. I like Feeley but Hester is on a whole different level as a strength coach.

I was looking for the quote he said but it was something along the lines of " You go ahead and teach your guys how to look good lifting weights and I'll teach mine how to prepare for Football Games...".... I'm not saying it was exactly that but it was close.... And yes I agree I like Feeley but Kurt is a whole different level....

committee would imply we have quality bodies - I’m not so sure. By my count, we have 1 solid guy in Johnson and 2 huge question marks in 12/33. ****, I can’t even name the 4th DE.

McCloud. Who is at his probably more fitted position. And he is serviceable. If you base quality off of last year. Sure. But this was a full year of off-season s&c and a actual true spring and summer. And in a full fall camp. Those guys will have improved a lot

Roberts and Taylor are going to be in the mix too. They don't need a ton of reps to help the starters and coaches out enormously. Simpson has enough weapons to use.
