This is a Marcus Freeman defense. Good for Al Golden, but Freeman had defenses like this at other stops.
The ND front 7 swarms, but there appears to be some deficiencies on the back end. The blitzes and the front 7's overall athleticism have helped to mask that, along with Georgia having the dropsies and an EXTREMELY green qb. Good for Golden, but I'm not crowning him.

Notre Dame has all the money of the Catholic Church and could have hired basically any coach in the country after Kelly left. They actually considered candidates, but saw they already had a gem in Freeman and hired him as the HC.

Downvote away but I think that Lashlee could have been our equivalent. For all the stuff wrong with the team, we had a top offense in consecutive years with two different QBs. But the people who run UM only wanted Cristobal.
