After watching the first four games, if I was on the committee, I am never leaving a team with a Top 5 QB out of the playoff again assuming his team is borderline deserving. I generally think most of the hypotheticals are lame and that each game shouldn't be a referendum on worthiness because football is a random sport and home field seemed like a massive advantage. But what is the best neutralizer for home field advantage? An experienced, battle-tested and playmaking QB.
I get why Miami was left, of course. And I am not saying Miami would have beaten any of the four teams that won (although Penn State felt the most vulnerable). And our defense likely would have made me pull every single hair out of my head en route to a 52-38 loss. But Ward and that offense were built to handle those loud environments and would have made those games way more interesting (apologies to Clemson, who did show SOME life offensively).
With quarterback play as mediocre as ever this season, the committee missed the boat by leaving Ward and this offense out of the playoff. At the very least, there would have been some fireworks.
