CBS Way Too Early 2025 Rankings

Basically CBS thinks our offense takes a small step back but is still very good, and our defense takes a decent step forward.

Had we had even a slightly above average defense, we would've been in the natty most likely. Semi-final at a minimum.

Don’t let a historically bad secondary hide the fact our LB’s were all trash and the DL was mediocre at best.

Mario is in for another rude awakening next season with a mid defense if he doesn’t upgrade in the spring.

We just finished outside the top 15 with the best college QB on the planet. Downgraded at QB, RB, TE, WR, and K. Possibly down at DL, too, unless Scott and a DE step up (I'm optimistic there). LB stays at bad unless a couple young ones are ready (less optimistic). But, upgraded big at CB and S. Hopefully upgraded at DC. Tougher schedule on paper.

At present, this is not a top 12 team, but anything 18-25 seems reasonable to me.

You are hedging a lot on every player improving. They very well could. But a preseason ranking based on uproven talent? I can’t justify that. On paper, yes, we have blue chip talent at WR, DE, DT and LB. Do they all hit? I’d hit the spring portal hard for a more proven WR, better experience on defense, and a proven CB.

Is it possible Wes takes his leap finally? Absolutely. Does the highly rated DL from last season’s recruiting class blossom? Could very well happen. Saw some flashes in the bowl game from Trader. Maybe Carr, Joseph and co improve alongside. My point is, expecting all those to hit is a lot. We could have a range from Playoff bye/T10 ranking to 20/25 imo. As currently constructed with the proven talent we have, OL & RB, Beck and the reworked secondary, 8/9 ugly wins isn’t a stretch. But expecting 10/11 wins based on what the roster has actually put on the field up this point in their respective careers is a lot.

I think a lot of this board needs to take an objective look at the roster. We just hit, big time with Cam. Better than we have hit in a long, long time. And we still had a failure of a season by and large. Mario was brought in to be a roster builder. This year will be telling in how well he was done that. Seems like we are feeling the same in that regard.

I concur bro. I just wanted your specif take on the WR, DL and LB. In looking at this roster right now, I see an 8-4/9-3 type team. With the additions I mentioned or with the young kids developing at those specific positions(WR, DL, LB etc) then we move our window to 10-2/ACC title/Playoff contender.

Also, when I say that the young kids need to develop, I mean the type of development arc that we saw with Isaiah Horton from 2023-2024. That's development! That has been missing from this program for too long.

I think our OL play and RB talent, coupled with Beck, we are a 8/9 win team. Personally I think Trader takes a leap. Obviously the offense won’t be nearly as explosive but a T15 offense and a defense that moves towards the mean, would get us 8/9 wins.
 
I don't see how Miami can be ranked #3, but it does make it easier to stay in the playoff picture, instead of having to climb into the top 12.
