CB Tim Merritt commits to Miami

View as article
Fun Fact: Both CB Tim Merritt and RG Nez Cooper (Current UM Lineman) High School Head coaches are cousins. They are young guys whose names hold weight in the Birmingham area. I know Mario has a great relationship with Coach LeBeaux at Pleasant Grove. Hopefully we can keep building a relationship with Frank at Parker. Those two guys will always have talented inner city kids from the Birmingham area who love ball and are DAWGS!!!!
I knew it was somebody up here that had game! I was waiting on you paparazzi to show back up!

You're spot on with your comment man! I wish people realized how much the Birmingham Kids helped create a toughness in Saban's locker room when he first got rolling. Marquise Maze, Andre Smith, Marcell Darius, Josh Chapman, etc. these guys ran Tuscaloosa. The mentality was established before the Julio's and Mark Ingrams signed.

Birmingham will always have tough kids. The national exposure has grown in recent years. But the attitudes of guys coming out of the area is war like. They have to get it! You won't see many entitled guys either! Birmingham could very well become a pipeline because these kids here aren't scared to leave home! Saban isn't here anymore and that new head coach better keep Roach and Chapman on staff if he wants to keep a foot print in the city.
You can’t forget the Williams brothers. Quincy and Quinnen. West sides and Wenonah’s finest! Very underrated!

A large portion of my Dad's side of the the family is in Sylacauga.
Wow!!! It’s been some great athletes come out of that sylacuaga area throughout the years! One of my best friends from Talledega he played college ball at Jacksonville state and coach 3 state championship basketball teams featuring 5 star SG John Petty a few years ago.

Just to kinda continue on something @DMoney has said about going after big city kids. Birmingham is not gonna be as big as say Chicago or St Louis but its still a urban vibe so u can see the pull with kids there. Even a town like Savannah with a high blk population. You can get kids from these areas and its not as impossible as when people think the entire state is rural.

Wish we would have held on to Kevin Riley but cant blame the kid for making a personal family decision. That would really have shown Bama that we got our foot in that state. I dont mind at all grabbing a kid or two from those areas each cycle. You know you will get a few that want to leave the country environment and go to the big city. ****, their relatives probably push it as well.

Parents been pushing their kids out of SoFla forever to other schools using the whole, "I want them out of this area" BS.....about time we get some of that from OOS kids whos parents feel the same. And sounds like Mario is taking full advantage of that.

Yep. And even more so if you're a family that values education/internships/career opps. Miami is becoming a major player in finance/healthcare/tech.

I’ve said it on here ad nauseum. As the product of country folks who left for the big city, always shoot your shot at a country boy. He might be ready to get the **** outta there. Not saying that’s the case with Merritt and the Bama boys on the roster as Birmingham and Mobile are decent sized cities but you get my drift.

I’m glad we’re seeing it now, but imo, we should always go hard(pause) for interested kids from North Florida, Georgia, Bama, and South Cack…
