CB Charles Brantley commits to Miami

ONLY 28 points is nasty work and shows the standard we have for Defense overall. They gave up 30+ in conference play and we look at 28 points as good days work for them, that little switch in our brains to give them pass is why we are home right now gearing up for toaster bowl.

Its true lol it was that bad. I'm not kidding at the end of the game I was like "Hey 28 points, that's great for our defense".

For sure and when you chart the drives, you kinda look at it and you are like they got a couple stops but we had turnover on downs multiple times, passed up fgs, turnovers, etc. the late season collapse man, smfh.

I understand but I had post leading up to that week because when anyone would bring up the defense was giving up 30 points in conference play, they would say hey can those teams keep up with our offense. I would try to explain you cant expect an offense to play perfect for entire season. We cant even line up and seem confused with any movement, shift, motion. No one seems to no assignment. Just foundationally we were playing a terrible level of football, really disgusting product we were putting on field/tape.

When you excuse the defense and say an offense has to score 40+, its just too much to expect an offense to play like that every game. Then boom we get the game where we miss guys wide open, Miss a slot fade, miss TE down middle, etc. Offense didnt have it and agreed it was probably on them but the defense played a QB who couldnt throw and we seemed to be only ones who didnt get memo and NEVER adjusted. NEVER DARED THEM TO THROW BY LOADING BOX. Never made them play left handed, we just sat in base D and gave up edge every play.
I don't disagree I just look at it as of the two losses that one was on the offense and Syracuse was inexcusably on the defense. We always do this though. For a few years we couldn't score more than 21 points but the defense kept us in games. This year we couldn't stop anybody when Guidry schemed up good things last year. The back end was just that bad and there must have been some weird disconnects on the defensive side of the ball. I don't really know how all that happens.

I hate to say it but 2 offensive plays changed the outcome of that game. Horton dropped a slant that was a walk in touchdown and on the same play George got the personal foul that killed the drive.

When x fumbled and that dude ran it back for a touchdown that was the moment they went from chasing us to us chasing them.

Those were the plays that decided the Syracuse game. I love x as a player but that one killed us. It wasn’t even a hard hit

I've wanted Brantley here at UM since he was in high school. Better late than never! This is an excellent pickup and the caliber of CB we should have here. Still imperative we close the deal with Xavier Lucas but this is an amazing start! Cmon Mario....Go get me Lucas!

Yep this portal cycle is different than any year previously under Mario.

Still need some pieces but it’s looking much better
You’re making me wonder what we may have added this last year (besides J Smith) if Ward would have come out and committed instead of declaring for the draft first. We must have known about the glaring hole with DBs and could have sold the prospect of a great year with the right QB committed at that point (obviously not knowing how great of a difference maker he turned out to be).
