I was just listening to ESPN radio and they said Carson Beck’s going into the portal and we were believed to be the top choice for his services. Anybody in the know can corroborate this?

If UGA had Miami’s offensive talent this season, they’d still be playing. Likewise, if Miami had UGA’s defense.

hopefully dawson will lean on the run game in the early part of the year to ease him in

honestly it wouldnt matter who the qb is at this point, if the defense doesnt make drastic improvements

Can't do what at UGA? Beat ranked teams? Finish top 5? Make the playoff? Which of those did he not do?

His only loss in 2023 was a 3 pt loss to Bama. He is good for 300 yards and 2 TDs a game. We are going to struggle to get 150 yards and a TD with Emory.

Is he Cam? Of course not but we still have a shot at winning the ACC next year with him. We don't with Emory.

Where are yall ranking him as far as actual QB ability (so not factoring in NIL) among all the actual Portal QBs that have entered thus far. (So no including Robertson/Hoover, Nuss/etc)?

Clearly below Mateer. Maye not as purely talented as like Jackson Arnold. But dude is honestly the clear 2nd best Portal QB thus far if we are being honest.

I didn't want him earlier because of the Injury and the money he'd cost. At this point if the injury checks out and we are sure he's going to be helthy by summer, I don'tthink we even have a hope at a better prospect. And as far as the NIL is concerned it just is what it is. And he's surely just using Texas Tech to raise the price even more. Hopefully its <$4M. I don't think he is the best performance/$ in portal (I'd have Mendoza and Morris above). So like at worst he's probably the 4th best Qb we could have gotten?

If it works out, Its pretty good.

Again I said this weeks ago, but you don't get projected as a top overall pick in the draft as a Senior like he was entering the season if you aren't at least a good college Qb.

I don’t know that I’d ‘clearly’ put him below Mateer. Let’s see what Mateer can do when he’s not playing in the Mountain West and instead the SEC.

You take the 5 when there are no other options. Our floor is raised from Emory. Beck has played in some big time games. But he’s no savior. It will moderately improve our position. I’d say maybe a 1 WAR (sorry I’m a baseball guy) addition. We need him to be a multiplier for skill players and I don’t know if he has that pull. We also need him to heal or none of this matters… this can’t be our strategy anymore regardless lol

I'd take these stats any day ... and this was with a suspect OL, no RBs and no WRs (most drops in NCAAF).

If it weren't for the elbow, I'd be thrilled to land Beck. But at this point it's worth the gamble.
