#CanesCamp Notebook (August 21)

Lol at the golden propaganda machine trying to make our corners sound good burns and elder get beat more then not. Howard and gunter are serviceable at best. Yeah the crappie d line did not help last year but these guys are not stars. To all of you worried about Howard leaving after this season don't worry nobody wants a cb who runs 4.7 and can't tackle.

“I thought the humidity was catching up to us so I wanted to cut it."

I remember we used to work through this as it made us stronger and gave us an advantage. Times are a changing.

Dude, Alabama holds practices in a dome. No one calls them weak.

They also win. When you win you can fist yourself without lube if it works.

We're a team that looks like crap in the rain, comes out flat (in the hot noon games) and has had issues with cold weather...just saying.

Which noon games did we come out flat for last year? How would practicing longer today solve the 3 weather related problems you outlined?

Wake Forest last year, noon game. 14-3 to start the game. Could have been 17-3 if they didn't missed the field goal. They drove the ball on their first 3 drives, do you remember?

Yes because practicing in humidity has to solve all 3 problems at ONCE. How about we use a little common sense and understand that it is about adjusting to all types of weather conditions.

Florida game. Came out at noon. Beat the Gators. I remember it.

Wake Forest - The first touchdown was half way through the 1st and the 2nd TD was half way through the 2nd quarter. First was a long drive. Second included a big play. ---- Our defense giving up long drives is not a surprise nor an indication the team came out flat.

Not playing well is entirely different than "coming out flat" because of weather.

Not only does practicing in the humidity for an extra hour today not solve all 3 problems at ONCE, it solves none of the 3 issues you mentioned since it was at the end of a reportedly strong practice, not the beginning, had nothing to do with rain and nothing to do with cold weather.

Common sense is dealing with real issues and criticizing and analyzing appropriately rather than trying to use a practice cut short to extrapolate larger agenda issues.

Dude, Alabma DOES NOT play in the south Florida heat do they? The weather in south Florida has ALWAYS been this way.

“I thought Jake was sharp,” Golden said. “We threw some more deep balls than we have. He worked through his progressions and did a good job.”

We screwed

Nah...they just play in Tuscaloosa...which is of course more like North Pole

We're screwed because one of the QBs in our two deep is doing well? Ok.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a two-a-day session on Wednesday, the Miami Hurricanes spent Thursday morning working hard under the South Florida sun.

The morning session was the only #CanesCamp practice scheduled for Thursday and head coach Al Golden decided to end the session early to give his team a break after powering through tough conditions to have a productive practice.

“I cut it a little bit,” Golden said. “I thought the humidity was catching up to us so I wanted to cut it. they did a good job responding and I thought they pushed through it, so we are going to give them a big break here and get them off their feet.”

There were several highlights on offense including a 25-yard run by sophomore running back Gus Edwards and a pair of first downs thrown by freshman quarterback Brad Kaaya to D’Mauri Jones and Malcolm Lewis.

Senior Ryan Williams also looked good in the 7-on-7 period, connected with senior tight end Clive Walford for 20 yards. Fellow senior Jake Heaps also impressed, threading a ball through defenders and to junior wideout Herb Waters for a 15-yard gain.

“I thought Jake was sharp,” Golden said. “We threw some more deep balls than we have. He worked through his progressions and did a good job.”

Defensively, Antonio Crawford was the latest defensive back to put up a stellar showing. A deep group that includes juniors Tracy Howard and Ladarius Gunter, as well as sophomores Artie Burns and Corn Elder, the cornerback competition has been intense and Golden is pleased with the depth the Canes have at the position.

“Yesterday I thought Ladarius looked really improved,” Golden said. “Corn probably had his best day yesterday and Artie did real well. Then we come back today and Antonio gets two interceptions and he looks better. It’s a group that’s competing. It’s a good situation because they’re competing for both corner spots and the starter at nickel.”

The Canes will return to Greentree Friday for a two-a-day session of #CanesCamp, beginning at 8:20 a.m., and continuing at 3:20 p.m. For the latest information on Miami Hurricanes Football, follow @MiamiHurricanes on Twitter.

Anyone else notice that Gunter has been referred to for the majority of camp as a "junior?"

Are they just fuucking up, as I was under the impression he was a senior?

I have zero agenda, I assure you. I call it both ways. Not sure you're the same. I remember when humidity was not a big deal and made us stronger.

The Wake Forest game we came out flat. They drove on their first 3 drives. They drove and we did nothing. They drove and we scored 3 points. They drove and we did nothing. So the majority first half we played flat and unmotivated football. The offense sucked and the defense sucked. FLAT FLAT FLAT.

Call it lack of motivation and focus, call it humidity (likely a bunch of things) but I call it lack of mental toughness. IMO one way to get mentally tough is playing in disgusting conditions like HOT WEATHER. Something we used to pride ourselves on.

If we played every game like UF (which we don't see against Duke, VT and UL) then I would be more than happy. That was tough and physical football. I love that chit. That is what I want. 4 quarters of that chit will make anyone satisfied.

When you play unmotivated football, when you look flat and weak, I tend to think you're not mentally tough. The reason I was remarking on the practice being cut short is because of last year and those last 5 games. The way we finished the season is crap. The way we finished the season is what scares me. I fear we're not mentally tough. I fear we will let down and come out flat. So yes practicing in tough conditions makes you mentally tough. We used to pride ourselves on this practice.

Now we could have cut practice short and I'm making a big deal of nothing, fine. I'll admit it. But because I fear that we're no different then last year is why I brought it up.

My point is I have heard many times "the team came out flat" "lacking motivation" etc. etc., but I think there is a difference between the team sucking versus lack of being prepared to play, excited to play or up for the game. Not being good enough, bad players, bad scheme, play calls etc. is different than "coming out flat" or disinterested.

I think we were bad at football -- coaches, players, depth, etc. But I am not sure I saw anyone not interested in winning.

What a horrible, ignorant, misguided post. For one, you're wrong. JJ and Schnelly would not only reward the team with cut practices when they we're practicing well, but even send star players off to the locker room early. Two, you're the same guy who is attacking the program for not having a bubble. Now we're not tough enough?

I get that people are just miserable sometimes, but its like we're trading Cane fans for opponent's fans here sometimes.

PS- nothing personal.

T-Town in its hottest is not hotter than south Florida....and it NEVER will be. Stop letting people lie to you, if the hot weather wasn't a factor for Sapp and Ray Lewis then it shouldn't be a problem for these kids.
