Canes Commits/Targets HS Season Thread: 2016-2017

One of my boys is at the Central vs Killian game. Central up 43-0 at the half, running clock for 2nd half.

Some Killian were trying to take cheap shots at James Cook and he hit one of them back.

Donaldson playing great. Maurice Smith as well.

Waynmon Steed all over the field.

Dominick Watt with a TD and Pick to seal the game... Big time talent who miami should be all over. think were recruiting him for next year...being coach by former cane Ethenic Sands Currently.

My fav pick at wr or DB next year...

lol @ DON BOSCO PREP coming down here and getting washed by American Heritage 21-0.

Heritage maybe the 3rd or 4th best team in Broward County.

We sure we want Deejay at CB? He's electric with the ball in his hands. I guess it depends how we close at RB and WR this cycle.
Deejay will be playing both sides of the ball once he gets here to Miami.
He's already said that Coach Richt told him he's going to use him all over the field, Offense, Defense & Special teams.

this always gets said during recruiting and then ends up happening .00001% of the actual time

Last time that worked out was with Gordie Lockbaum.

A couple Navaughn Donaldson highlights at LG and RT against Killian (#55).

I think he's the best player in Dade.

He's probably 32 years old, but **** if that kid doesn't look like the next Dalvin Cook.

G **** how old is this kid?

He was 14 at this years sparq combine.

I see posts about him transferring, which I wouldn't be so sure of.

He was a big name in optimist, and didn't leave to one of the powerhouse programs. I know of a few high school coaches from different programs that spoke about trying to get him, but he still went to southwest. The guy who runs tamiami Optimist (and coached him at tamiami) is also a coach at southwest. If he continues to get the offers that he wants, then I don't see any reason to transfer.

Lamarcus joyner was there for 3 years, and transferred out when the coaching staff left to different schools (including Genron). Maybe he transfers out, but I don't see it as long as his coach stays with the program and he gets his offers.

Looks like the next big name back out sfl. My only concern as a prospect is that hopefully he's not one of those kids that are almost done developing at an early age.

How is a kid done developing at 14? That kind of thing gets thrown around as scoutspeak but it makes no sense to me. Not picking on you - just the terminology.

I was referring to their height and frames, not the development of their skills or getting stronger.

Seen it with other prospects. 4-star RB Jakhari Gore is still playing college football (class of 2010), and he hasn't grown an inch since when he first enrolled at Columbus as a freshman. Came in as a 5'8 160lb freshman and enrolled at lsu at 5'8" 175lbs. Same deal with former under armour all-American wr tacoi sumler. He was bigger and faster than everyone In optimist, but never grew since 9th grade. Both kids were looked at as the next big thing, but it never materialized. From coaching optimist, hs, and 7on7, I've seen countless examples of kids who are close to finished products as far as size and frame as 9th graders. Not saying that will be stringfield, but 5'6" and running 4.5 electronic at 14 reminds me a bit of both gore and sumler.

If they stop growing in height, so what? Many/most kids stop growing in height in 9th/10th grade. As for frame, that's nonsense. Again, people repeat a theory enough and it's bound to be true. Look at the science - almost all male bone growth stops at 17-18 YO. A kid that stops bone growth (i.e. Frame growth) in 9th grade is unheard of. Further, muscle development continues to grow well into your 20s. To categorize a kid as a finished product in 9th grade is silly. What's more, those kids are in the extreme minority.

Don't agree with this at all. To me, Smith seems like he has very good quickness and body control for a 6-1 wr. WR's that tall aren't going to be juking around the field like Sam Bruce too often.
