Can we give credit to D'onofrio?

Sorry, but I can't agree with this one. First off, "much better display" isn't saying much.

We still gave up 450 yards of offense and got BAILED out a bunch. A TD called back on a questionable offensive PI, a missed fg, a unforced fumble inside our territory, and a ton of penalties. They could have easily score 40+ on us this game.

Their wr's were wide open all over the field the entire game. We even got lucky on a couple plays where Manuel just made really bad throws to open wr's (play where we challenged that Deon Bush forced the fumble...really bad throw).

Sure I saw some improvement, but overall our defense just isn't good, plain and simple. I still don't understand how people can argue otherwise.

This.

440+ yards of total offense. 215+ yards rushing.

No adjustment to the spread running game...again. Fsu was running the same few plays over and over. Split back strongside sweep, Split back misdirection weak, Triple option weakside, and play action off split back run. We even got a break with Thompson out because that guy was just starting to absolutely shred us and he is the scariest back on their roster.

Our guys came out more intense, hit hard and made more plays but FSU played exceptionally sloppy and undisciplined.Anyone can get guys to play hard against FSU

No D' Ofrio does not get a pass. He gets a little credit for adjusting since the NC game and playing his corners a little closer to ball more often and showing a bit more variety in coverage..

The 3rd and long before the half that let FSU off the hook and allowed them to drive for a FG was unacceptable. You can see the stark contrast in coaching. On third and long Stoops sent the house and had his DL shifting to confuse blockers. Stoops says "I'm comming and you've gotta block me and then make a play on my guys to get this first down". On the 3rd and very long No D' Ofrio goes with 3 DL, even when DL is our weakness. We end up not getting any pressure so the QB has all day to hit something underneath our safeties who are 20 yards deep or not being able to contain the QB if he decides to run.

This is still unacceptable coaching at the University of Miami. No D' Ofrio must go.

And if we had sent the house on 3rd and 16 and gave it up, you'd complain about that, too.

We're severely limited on defense right now.

I'd prefer we blitz there, even if we get burnt.. at the very least we get manuel to rush his throw or make him make an awesome throw.. at best we get a sack and they have to punt the ball.

Defense looked great for the most part yesterday.

But you know what? The defense looked great the second half of last season, too.

We can't afford to wait till the 8th game of the season to start playing defense.

Not taking into account all the suspensions last year or the loss of players coming into this year?

It's not like the same team that ended last season was starting this season.

These posters look at everything in a vacuum. Is there a defense in history that did well starting this many fresh, sophs, and minimal upperclassmen talent? Would Rodgers start on any d1 defense in the country?

Of course they are going to give up a lot of yards when our offense consistently goes 3 and out, particularly w/ our hurry-up offense that eats zero clock. And this is with a defense of fresh/sophs.

Yes. If we jailbreak and get a sack or int would you be happy with the call?

It's easy to play the what if scenario when the alternative has never taken place.

So what has been the results on 3rd and very long throughout his tenure? The actual on field results haven't been good.

LMAO. So you are saying this is the best we can do? We have to sit in a soft zone and give up 3rd and 15 so as to prevent some sort of 40 yard gain you are assuming will happen if we even attempt to get more aggressive.

Oh and to your first comment, no we aren't the only team to give up a 3rd and 15. But we appear to be the only team that gives that up consistently. That last part is the key. Percentages say we should already be at an advantage in those situations yet we aren't producing stops. That falls on the coach. Period.

It's also easy to second guess with the benefit of hindsight.

I have no idea what we'd look like in another scheme, but I know that bad players yield bad results. I don't care what we run, wit this personnel on defense, we'd be bad. We can argue the semantics of how bad, but it's all the same to me.

Based on Golden's and D'Onofrio's track record, I trust they'll get the defense fixed once the talent improves.

O lost the game, playcalling......

Rodgers :ohlord: :ibisroflmao:

FSU's defense is legit homey. What were you expecting?

To have some offensive balance. We threw 40 something passes, 15 runs is not acceptable. The 49ers may have the best front seven on the planet and the Seahawks ran at will. You have to keep running the football. Those 2-3 yard runs in the first half turn into 7-8 yard runs in the second half when the d starts to tire. And it stops the the dline from t ing off on your qb. One more positive on running the ball is it shortens the game. And if you know the other team is more talented, this is your best chance to win along with turnovers.

I've been one of his biggest critics on this board, but I will give credit where it's due. His defensive playcalling has been much improved since the second half against UNC. I see blitz's I see physical play from my corners who aren't 10 yards off the **** LOS now every play. The guy deserves credit he's been great the past 6 quarters. Now if Fisch just pulls his head out his *** these last 4 games we can win the coastal.

The defense is still pure garbage, and I put that fully on the coaches for attempting to run a D without the players to do it BUT they're doing a better job of putting the players in position to win. Now if this ******* can just stop calling cover 3 on 3rd and short...
