Sorry, but I can't agree with this one. First off, "much better display" isn't saying much.
We still gave up 450 yards of offense and got BAILED out a bunch. A TD called back on a questionable offensive PI, a missed fg, a unforced fumble inside our territory, and a ton of penalties. They could have easily score 40+ on us this game.
Their wr's were wide open all over the field the entire game. We even got lucky on a couple plays where Manuel just made really bad throws to open wr's (play where we challenged that Deon Bush forced the fumble...really bad throw).
Sure I saw some improvement, but overall our defense just isn't good, plain and simple. I still don't understand how people can argue otherwise.
This.
440+ yards of total offense. 215+ yards rushing.
No adjustment to the spread running game...again. Fsu was running the same few plays over and over. Split back strongside sweep, Split back misdirection weak, Triple option weakside, and play action off split back run. We even got a break with Thompson out because that guy was just starting to absolutely shred us and he is the scariest back on their roster.
Our guys came out more intense, hit hard and made more plays but FSU played exceptionally sloppy and undisciplined.Anyone can get guys to play hard against FSU
No D' Ofrio does not get a pass. He gets a little credit for adjusting since the NC game and playing his corners a little closer to ball more often and showing a bit more variety in coverage..
The 3rd and long before the half that let FSU off the hook and allowed them to drive for a FG was unacceptable. You can see the stark contrast in coaching. On third and long Stoops sent the house and had his DL shifting to confuse blockers. Stoops says "I'm comming and you've gotta block me and then make a play on my guys to get this first down". On the 3rd and very long No D' Ofrio goes with 3 DL, even when DL is our weakness. We end up not getting any pressure so the QB has all day to hit something underneath our safeties who are 20 yards deep or not being able to contain the QB if he decides to run.
This is still unacceptable coaching at the University of Miami. No D' Ofrio must go.
And if we had sent the house on 3rd and 16 and gave it up, you'd complain about that, too.
We're severely limited on defense right now.
I'd prefer we blitz there, even if we get burnt.. at the very least we get manuel to rush his throw or make him make an awesome throw.. at best we get a sack and they have to punt the ball.
