Can we give credit to D'onofrio?

Two weeks in a row this defense has improved.

Better D line play, especially Pierre and Robinson.

LBs making plays (even Gaines and Cornelius). McCord showing pass rush abilities

Actuall physical corners. Gunter played the best corner we've seen here in years IMO

Bush playing like a man.

Yea there are still blown plays, like giving up the third and long at the end of the first half. But that will come with experience.

And yes there are still terrible players like Rodgers. The only solution for that is waiting for Carter and Burns.

The point is a defense full of freshman and sophomores hung with the big bad Noles until they were worn out because the offense couldn't do anything.

Four more games this year, plus another year of U-Tough, and hopefully some impact recruits have got me hopeful.

I know most people hate D'onofrio but we have seen development.

TRUE DAT!!!!!!!!

Very good post and very much on target! A D full of 18 and 19 year olds, in high school a few months ago, played extremely well against an O full of juniors/seniors with 4 to 5 years experience and maturity. We are on the right track and, if recruiting this year is good, we should see significant improvement an outstanding D over the next 2 to 3 years!

Our O actually lost the last two games! Not sure what all of the "weird" play calling is about! We played get O the first few games of the year ... straight up running game and working the sidelines and center of the field with excellent YAC. Now, who knows what the heck we call our O !!!! Not sure why we have moved from successful play calling to a total mess!

Defense looked great for the most part yesterday.

But you know what? The defense looked great the second half of last season, too.

We can't afford to wait till the 8th game of the season to start playing defense.

Considering our offense can't possess the ball, great effort by our D. At LB though, Gaines probably had the best day and we need to get more out of EJ and DP. The secondary played fast and physical. On the line, they worked hard and hopefully we'll get Porter back this weekend.

Nice post. Would like to VT put back in the lineup after that game last night. VT is not great, is not even good, but he is better than 22.

Not taking into account all the suspensions last year or the loss of players coming into this year?

It's not like the same team that ended last season was starting this season.

I think the defense played a lot better, not great, but better. It's becoming clear now that a lot of our shortcomings are not just coaching and scheme like so many of our internet know it alls claimed, but the fact that we have practice squad (Rodgers, etc.) guys out there playing defense along with freshman.

And we're moving up in stats:rollcanes: Now, #114 in total defense and #83 in pass defense!

No credit for Coach D! Otherwise we won't be able to call him Corch Dorito like we're five year olds.

Much, much better display by Dorito's unit. This is what we wanted to see, at least improve as the year goes on. Keep getting better.

Last year we saw the defense get better as a whole as well. Its why I had unrealistic expectations going into this season.

I thought Coach D did a great job last night considering.

He can't go out there and make Kacy make a football play, or make our LBs stop watching guys run by them. An out manned defense came to play last night and were physical as ****.

Spot on great post. D played better than they have all year, I thought Fisch and Morris were both awful

Vt in the doghouse for yelling at DB coach for not getting playing time after inury...what a joke

I'll give the guy credit for this one game. The D did enough to win this game. The scheme was aggressive and the guys were ready to go. Props to D'onofrio for last night. I hope to see more of that kind of performance for the rest of this year
