Can Corch D's scheme work with elite talent?

Question is irrelevant IMO. U shouldn't require elite talent to field a good defense. 95% of division 1 teams are playing without elite talent. So essentially, he would be a failure at nearly every school in the country. I'm not buying it

Yes! Swap the 2001 D for this one and what do you think? They made great plays because they were great players, I think people read way to much into coaches. Alabama loses D coaches all the time and still win.
I know we have beaten this to death over the last 2 weeks but I am curious of anyone feels that this defensive scheme can be effective even with elite talent at every position. I think it safe to say everyone realizes we are missing talent at S and are struggling with quality depth at LB, but would it even matter if we put elite guys at those positions.

Too often we have said we are only a player or two away from being back and I have been one of the people that felt we were close, but I truly don't think this scheme will work here even as we continue to stockpile talent. We are far too passive and it seems like we want our defensive lineman to engage blockers instead of penetrating on run plays. The fact that we continue to get absolutely sodomized by crossing routes and passes into the flats makes me think it's more than just miscommunication out there. These guys are 9 games into the season the miscommunication issue should have been solved by now.

IMHO we have enough talent to challenge teams more man-man, but continue to allow mediocre WR's and QB's look like all-americans out there and that has been a problem for 3 years. Corch D even said he's been telling us that's been a problem since he's been here, well here's an idea genius, devise a scheme or game plan to address the problem.

I love what Coach Golden has done for this program over the last 3 years, getting us through the NCAA mess and restocking the talent for the most part, but he has to make a very tough decision at the end of the year and let his best friend go. We have given up over 500 yards 3 weeks in a row and that is simply unacceptable. Golden preaches accountability and at the end of the day he has to realize that we need to go in a different direction on defense because I don't think this scheme would work with 5* talent at every position.

I've been saying this from day 1. If I know where the ball is going to go from just our setup on the field, then it must be really obvious to the OC where the holes are. Instead you have a bunch of idiots telling that noone knows anything about the scheme and deflecting blame to everywhere except the scheme. The problem is most of us are not claiming to know the scheme. We are saying we don't have to know every detail of the scheme to see where the obvious holes and weaknesses are. If us fans can see, the opposing coaches can see it

Not buying what? We are bringing in a lot of elite talent my question is a relevant one IMO, can we succeed on defense even with better players? I don't believe we can be anything better than mediocre because the scheme is too predictable and easily taken advantage of.

If by "scheme" you mean a good 3-4 defense, then a team with great players should be able to execute it (ex. Saban at Alabama, or ND last year)

If you think D is a terrible play caller (which he is), then firing him is justified. However, I don't understand those posters who constantly harp against the 3-4. I mean, the '72 dolphins used it during their undefeated season, so I highly doubt its such a terrible defensive system when properly executed. Its one thing to say D is a terrible teacher when it comes to defense, but if SFL kids can't learn a properly taught 3-4, they don't deserve to go to the NFL.

I'm not harping on the scheme as much as the play calling as you pointed out. But part of the scheme is passing Wr's off into different zones which has been a huge issue for 3 years now. That's a schematic flaw, and one that must be addressed. Dorito can't sit there and tell us in a presser that he can tell you what are deficiencies are continue call the same plays. At that point you adjust the scheme to the players you have.
