Can anyone explain why we lined up our DEs on WRs this year?

Has anyone asked the coaches? Is there a scheme at any level of football that this happens?

were they covering the WR or did they drop back into a zone? Cause the latter happens all the time.

Pre-snap Shayon "what are knee ligaments?" Green lining up over slot wideouts was one of the many lowlights of Dorito and Golden's 2013 defense.

I saw it against a few teams at times while in our 3-4 front. I assume that in that alignment, Shayon Green and Tyriq McCord (the two playes who I saw play that technique most frequently) were playing the outside LB position and were responsible for that zone. What confused me, was why when there were two receivers to that side of the field, they would play the outside WR and not over the slot WR? (Seeing a 260 lb player lined up where a corner would typically line-up presents an odd imagery)

I believe the entire concept would be perceived differently if they weren't our DE's in the 4-3 scheme, and instead we understood them to be OLB's and not DE's.

It would be nice to hear one of the coaches describe what they are trying to accomplish out of that look and what each player's assignemnt is out of that look.

To those who say they were only dropping back into zone, you're absolutely wrong. Someone on here or over on the WEZ had screen shots and gifs of it. They were, without a doubt, covering the WRs. So, to answer the OP. No. No one will explain why because it's inexplicable.

So which DE was covering a WR?

I've seen Green, AQM covering slots. Also, Cornelius and Armbrister covering slots and getting toasted, then Doritos lining them up the very next play on the same slot, to get burnt again...smfh

Here you guys go for reference sake.

See, Gorlden and Dorito told you guys it was execution. If they hadn't failed in coverage then the defense would be dominant. As soon as they find a de that can cover slots....oh man look out

I saw 17 doing it MULTIPLE times throughout the season. And I don't mean dropping into a zone like a zone blitz. I mean cornerback technique, turn your back to the QB and run with a slot receiver down the sideline. That's a 255 lb/de.

Wake Forest Wide Splits!! Wide Splits!!

Not one double A gap blitz by our defense.

LOL. "It's talent, not coaching!", say the folks with orange and green blinders.

That's inexcusable. We definitely need 5-star DE's to run that scheme. You can't ask a 2-star 270 pound DE to become a CB.

Looks like a dude playing LB lining up over the TE who happens to be split out wide in those photos.

We are going to a different defensive look next year. They are going to split out earl Moore to cover the slot. We are trending forward.
