jelani doesnt want to be a dt. i thought one of reason he committed here was because they wouldnt play him at dt.

Looks like Hamilton is healthy and working with the interior DLinemen. DT depth is growing at light speed.

If he is indeed moving to DT and Renfrow gets in maybe he'll be able to redshirt this season. He could really use one.

Here's what I said about Jelani in December of last year:

The specific name here is JelaniHamilton. I think he slides inside very much like Olsen Pierre. Ideally, as you said, he would have taken a shirt year to realize it'll be impossible for him to stay below 290, and he's most likely a 305 pounder once he full matures. With his long arms and good feet, he may surprise people toward the end of next season, much like Pierre flashed glimpses at the end of this season. I keep repeating that these guys are on the field, being judged, at the same time guys like William Joseph took 2 full seasons (a redshirt and then a year as an unexplosive Dend) to show us flashes at DT.

There was significant discussion in that thread about guys converting or sliding into DTs. There was significant discussion that Jelani didn't have the body type. Will be interesting to see what happens going forward.

He doesn't have a brace on his knee for the first time in 2 seasons and has added 20 lbs. He doesn't appear to need a redshirt.

Allen Bailey didn't want to be one either, but it was clearly the better position for him.

Fortunately the staff we have now doesnt bend over for players' shortsighted wishes anymore.

All I care about is that Jelanie looks like he has busted *** in the off season. He came here looking a little young and soft but he has made big strides already, just in physical appearance.

Bailey actually wanted to be a linebacker here when he was being recruited. And that was only if the staff absolutely wouldn't let him play CB.

Really? What pictures I saw were of the same soft body he's always had.

You think Jelani has what it takes to be a DT?

I'm not sold on that idea yet. He never struck me as a real physical kid.

So dt is more physical than dend? I assume you mean a mindset

So dt is more physical than dend?

In a 4-3, definitely, and it's not even close.

Especially with what we're asking our DT's to do.

I've been on the side that's given coach D a chance. I hope he does good this year but I truly believe we have to be more aggressive. MIAMI is known for aggressive defense.

I really wish people would let this go.

The philosophy is different and with the added weight, the pieces are different.

You simply aren't going to see lineman flying through gaps and celebrating a ton of TFL's after not being touched. It's not the way they coach it and just because other Miami teams have been successful doing it that way doesn't mean that another Miami team can't be successful doing it another way.

Sorry if that all came out on you, but I've seen it from a ton of people.

I honestly have no idea. It was my guess back then based on how I thought his size would develop. I don't know if he continues that route. I think it's unfortunate that he's likely to be "stuck" between a 285 pound DE or DT. The reason is that he should likely be a RS Frosh and then next season would be the deciding factor. If we really do move to more odd fronts, maybe it won't matter and he'll have a role.
