Cal RB Ott

Cal's offense is horrendous. They have given up six sacks in two games this year and could only score 21 points vs Auburn and Auburn threw 5 picks. All we have to do is limit the big plays and they will kill most drives themselves. I don't see them scoring 20 points on us.

My rocket science analysis for the game is -

Force fgs

and

Limit turnovers

I'm confident in our offense to score

I agree. I know our team must realize they will be getting everyone’s best shot. We will get Cal’s, Louisville will definitely give us **** and I’m sure Manny would love to drop an L on us.

I’m sure Cal will try to run in us and use something similar to what VT did. Tackling has to improve.
Teams will keep using the toss play in the running game and the motion receiver on the quick hitter pass plays until we figure out how to stop it. USF had success with it and VT copied it.

The line is 10 so do not expect a blowout.

Yes , they lost to FSU but outgained them 410 to 284 and missed 2 FG

They beat Auburn and also outgained them 332 to 286

On paper, you can argue that they have a better resume coming into our game than VT had.

Not a layup.
But it's also telling that despite all of the extra possessions they got against Auburn due to 5 turnovers by Thorne, they still only managed 332 yds

That's definitely happening. I'm thinking dude hits from 60
Yeah, every game the opposing kicker hits a longer FG that is their career best. By the last game of the season a walkon, backup kicker is going to hit a 70 yarder against us.

I take it Martinez was above him on that Portal RB list? Is Ott a Martinez-type, or a speed back?
Yeah when it was known Miami was after a highly rated running back the list of “wants” here was basically

Ott/Martinez/Hampton (the kid from UNC)

Ott isn’t necessarily big or fast but he just does everything well. Good speed, good power, good vision, he’s also an excellent receiver

He’s really good

They sure looked awful against FSU.

When some say the Cal offense is trash are they referring to the Cal offense with a healthy Ott and both starting WRs returning? I don't think so.

The Cal OL might be suspect but the RB is legit and the returning WRs are the best set if WRs we've seen so far this year (arguably better than Florida).

With that said, if our DL wins the line of scrimmage battle, we win by 10+ points.

Those are the things that drive me crazy. Over the years it seems like there were always a few plays we never adjusted to. I’m hoping Guidry is different and has them prepared for this. They look to be fast as well. I also hope our defense is tackling better this game.

I don't think that's the best way to gauge a team when other dynamics go into it. For example, Old dominion gave up 37 points to VT we gave up 34.
Exactly, that kind of mindset gets you beat.

Also, pretty sure the point was that this RB wasn’t healthy for that game

Seminoles have athletes - wouldn’t draw too many conclusions from that game.
