Bunche To UCLA

so he doesn't suck?

It's hard to tell when Kehoe is coaching him up. Sucks for depth reasons.. but that's about it.
I don't necessarily disagree. I just find it odd that after he announced he was leaving the comments here led me to believe Bunche would be lucky to catch on at a MAC school. Jim Mora, Jr. obviously thinks otherwise.

Top Shelf academics for a masters or doctorate ...and a chance to play a sixth year. We should all wish this kid well.

If you go by porsters on here then Gus Edwards might as well hang up his cleats (despite the fact that he had no business playing this year). Bunche is serviceable. If Mora needs a big body with experience, Bunche is his guy.

Size experience and athleticism will always get u a 2nd/3rd look...he could go to ucla, ride pine, and still get training camp invites

Herald article showed he is a good kid---wish him nothing but the best

Rose was talking about it this morning. Pretty much ripped Al saying the rotation is BS and tackles shouldn't be playing guard and vice versa.

He said Bunche had enough of that and bolted. Not sure if he was privy to inside information or reading between the lines but he's on point.

If that's true, then that sounds awfully similar to what Brandon Washington complained about.

Good spot for Bunche. Should make the two deep there and compete for a guard spot. UCLA was extremely young along the offensive line last year and lacked any depth.

Given that Bunche himself, and his father, HS coach, and sister all had a very different story than Rose, I'll go with their take on it. First of all, if we DIDN'T do the rotation Bunche would have LESS playing time, because he would not be the starter. But he, his coach, and his family all mentioned how he wanted to try someplace new with his last year of eligibility and have the big school college atmosphere. They all spoke very positively of his experience here and the coaches.

I'm sure that doesn't fit the negativity that many seem so badly to want to hear.

I'll give you two out of three, but I don't recall the athleticism. He's far more lumbering than athletic.

I agree with Rose in that I don't like the rotation, but IMO, Bunche is a better guard than he is a tackle.

You can get tackles to play guard, that's why so often you see college tackles move to guard in the NFL, what really gets you into trouble is when you move a guard to a tackle, like Brandon Washington.

This was just something he wanted to do because he prob was not going to be the Outright starter with Gadbois, Odogwu and KC lurking around. He prob wanted to go to a place where there was an immediate need for a RT or LT.

If he just wanted to start/play a lot he would not have transferred to UCLA. They started and played a bunch of true Freshmen on the OL, some of that due to injury and should be returning the injured starters they lost. Next year they should be pretty deep.

The kid and his family have handled this well, so don't know why Joe Rose is weighing in unless he over did his testosterone injection/gel this morning. Facts are simple: nice kid with great size, but stiff and probably not athletic enough to play tackle. He saw limited playing time last year and, coupled with the young linemen in the pipeline and arrival of quality recruits, his status was unlikely to improve and could potentially have worsened. The kid wants a shot at the NFL, so he smartly looked around for a better senior-year opportunity. Wish him nothing but the best.

Very good summary. Good luck to Bunche, who seems like a good kid. He's indeed stiff and I don't like linemen who lack athletic ability and play stiff. Our aspirations have to be higher than that.

UCLA is young and thin on the offensive line so they need guys who can step in as soon as spring practice. I wouldn't be surprised if Bunche plays early and receives some praise, identical to here, and then is phased out as the more capable athletes advance.
