I'd be curious to see if he's physical enough to play defense. For a guy who's never played football before, defense is a tough transition. Guys like that usually transition well to offense because it's not as physical and they get to go out there and run routes and catch football. Asking a kid who's never played football to take on 300lb linemen head-up is a different story. Guys that have played football their whole lives have trouble doing that.

Of course, with the way Coordinators play situational football these days, you don't necessarily need a guy who can do it all. If he can't play the run, and must stay on defense, he could be a pass-rush specialist at worst. When I see an athlete like him, though, I immediately think Tight End. 6'5" with big hands and can high-point the football.

excellent point. they must have seen something to indicate that he can physical at the point of attack. But I'm with ya on the transition thing. alot easier to just go catch the football and make a play then shed 300 lb tackle and take on a running back in the hole
 
Bain from u school made the nice transition from basketball player to football. He did play his junior year tho

Ted was 6'-8" and 215 soaking wet. But he was incredibly athletic. HOFer!!!

I don't like it. At all.

Considering the fact that UM is likely going to be looking at some degree of scholarship reductions, I don't like the idea of having one occupied by a guy who is still learning how to play the game.

Smh we still have people not understanding that a 3-4 OLB, such as Jordan, is a standup version of a 4-3 DE.

Outside rushers in a 4-3 = DE
Same sized outside rushers in a 3-4 = OLB......

This misunderstanding of the 3-4 is rampant.

That's a huge oversimplification of the differences between the 4-3 and 3-4 defense.

Those outside rushers will on occasion have to play coverage defense as well. Will they rush the passer most of the time? Yes. However they also have to be able to play in coverage.

Now back to you saying people don't understand the 3-4 defense.

This college(learning) football not the NFL. And they even draft ppl that haven't played football before.

I look at it as being able to teach an athlete that hasn't developed fundamental flaws yet. Blank canvas.

Jimmy Graham is full beast mode in the NFL after only one year of college football. But that goes back to what Wildcat was saying about offense vs defense. Either way, the kid is going to be a project and I hope he works out.

Since no kid has signed, what does it matter?

Its not like someone like Chad Thomas or one of the Georgia kids (Carter) would be scared of him. Its like that TE that committed a few years ago but signed with someone else. Good athlete but never really played football. We cut him to look elsewhere and there was little to no harm.

This commit does nothing in the now except improve relations at BTW.

Looks like the anti-golden crowd is up and looking to attack.

Lets repeat this commit is a project and is committed not signed to Miami. At this point in the game it is irrelevant.

I am skeptical too but he is an athlete at BTW, have him commit and watch his senior year. At least we get first crack at him.

Maybe it helps with Chad Thomas?
