Briscoe officially to guard?

At least the move was made now and not 2-3 years down the road. Hopefully he can do something there. If not, seek shelter elsewhere.

Sigh. I really liked him coming out of high school. I thought he could do some things for us.

Oh well.

That sucks. I was hoping he could develop into a quality DT. I'm a little concerned about our DL in future years.

Maybe that's a good sign... Grimble, Ivery, King, Moore, Pierre, Porter, and Luther might just be harder workers. I've heard rumblings that Briscoe wasn't working as hard as some of the other boys, so maybe this is a motivation move or perhaps the staff just doesn't think he has what it takes to be a DT? Unless he has impeccable footwork and a passion to play OL, it might be tough for him to crack into the two deep with the kinds of guys we have (and that we have coming in). Maybe it's just what he needs?

As for the other guys, i know they are unproven, but I can't help but be excited about them. Porter and Luther are from the last regime, but otherwise, you're talking about guys that were recruited by this staff. I know there is a question mark on Porter until he can prove himself durable enough to get through the summer and the whole season, but IF he can take that next step, I'm thoroughly excited. I think Pierre and Moore have the talent, tools, and game-time ferociousness to be upper tier DTs (not necessarily all-world, but a desirable compliment to a hypothetically healthy porter). Behind them, I think Luther can be a very good rotation guy. Grimble, with the added weight (and time to recover from injury), could probably start off as a 3rd down DT who has the motor to collapse the pocket and get a couple of sacks. At this point, I think King is a body that might be used situationally (or for garbage time), but I will reserve harsher criticism as he was forced to play young, and maybe he will develop into a solid rotation guy. I'm excited about Ivery, but just like Briscoe, I've heard rumblings that his off season wasn't as productive as the staff would have hoped for.

Hopefully that 68 treats him as well as it treated Jeremy Lewis.

Like J-Lew, Briscoe has natural size and coordination that's hard to find. Not everyone has the mentality for defense. The good thing is that Briscoe has four years to develop if he sticks with it.

sorry, but this sounds like speculative wishful thinking.

yet another hit that exposes the miss at DT this past recruiting cycle.

on a positive note, he should have more time to further hone his video game skills

You don't have to apologize - my post acknowledges that it is based on speculation i.e. "IF" "hypothetical"

This past recruiting cycle? How about the last several recruiting cycles.

So we're down to 6 DT:

Porter
Luther
Pierre
King
Moore
Ivery

And we have 12 DE:

Shayon
Dye
Cain
Perry
Chick
Grimble
Williams
McCord
Hamilton
Hoilett
Kamalu
AQM

Need to move a couple guys inside

I'll keep pulling for the kid. He's got great size and was all Cane before coaches even called him. If it's a work ethic thing, maybe he'll answer this wake-up call. If he must stay at OL, keep feeding him whoppers and let's hope he contributes one day.

I'm pretty sure he is listed as OG because he is an "old gangster". It's a street slang thing. It has nothing to do with his position change.

Crap, we really need somebody to breakout at DT this year. We need at least 4 quality players at that position, they don't all have to be Wilfork but they can't be just bodies.

If we had one more guy you could trust at nose, we sure have some nice candidates for 3-4 DEs and OLBs.

Well, based on the interview with Joe Rose, AG is VERY excited about OPierre and mentioned CPorter, if healthy has LOTS OF potential. From what I've read JGrimble is second on the depth chart; he's in his 3rd year-- right on schedule for him to put it all together. AG also mentioned LRobinson as a guy who has been putting in work in the weight room and expects that to translate on the field. These guys are physically mature now. They haven't been spectacular, but let's give them a chance

D'Nofrio's going to have to be creative in his fronts. He's got a few hybrid DE/DTs: Chick, Grimble, LRobinson, Kamalu and young DTs: King, Moore, Ivey. If these guys and the aforementioned DTs can be strong at the point of attack, the LBs will find the ball. Physicality, health and consistency will be the theme in 2013.

Briscoe is a scrub. Kid has been a slacker since HS. Played really well in playoffs and we only had Moore on board atDT. LSU never even showed interest because of his lack of work ethic. Unless he shapes up-- he'll never sniff the field.

For the **** of it:

DE Chick/Luther/Kamalu
NT Porter/Moore/Ivery/King
DE Pierre/Hamilton/Grimble

OLB McCord/Figueroa/Terry
ILB Denzel/Gaines
ILB Kirby/Blue
OLB Bond/AQM/Hoilett
