BRING THE CANES HOME - PETITION

No, MLS does not. They want a smaller one. But UM needs a larger one to comply with NCAA rules. Negotiations have commenced to determine how it will look, how it will be paid, liabilities, etc.

You don't know what you are talking about. Truthfully. Sorry to tell you, but Beckham group wanted UM to go to the FEC Slip site. UM pulled out for several reasons including that the FEC slip site has zero room for parking and tailgating. There are several other reasons that I cannot disclose at the moment.

These are facts. Period.

What NCAA rule on stadium size? FIU plays in a 20K stadium. I think you're a poser who's full of *****.

It's sad how a vocal, uninformed, and antagonistic minority feel the need to demean anyone trying to do something positive. If you don't think it's going to happen that's fine, but why actively try to derail attempts to improve the stadium situation. What's the harm? Maybe this petition site isn't the best, ok fine. It doesn't change the facts at hand. Sun Life blows, and this is an actual, viable option.

Shalala has told the politicians involved that the University is willing to kick in money to get it done. There have been real meetings about this, and there are more scheduled behind the scenes. There are hurdles to this project, the biggest being the active sabotaging of the Marlin's park site by those politicians and developers with vested interests in the waterfront sites.

As a fan base let's try for once to be just a bit positive and at least not actively shoot down ideas that are trying to improve the situation.

This sums up our fan base.

Can't be true. According to most people on this board and other Cane sites, Shalala hates football and is an ignorant businesswoman who has no idea how to run a program. She's personally responsible for tearing down the OB, and she has no vision or interest in ever getting us out of Sun Life.

I know you are being sarcastic, but to re-iterate....this is legit. The other major hurdle, which UM won't touch until there is something more concrete, is the lease with Sun Life.

Nobody is shooting down ideas. But, someone, anyone, please show me a proposal for a football stadium, not a 20K soccer stadium. Meanwhile this latest petition is for support for a soccer stadium. The last artist's rendering I saw showed a soccer stadium wedged between Marlins Stadium and 16th Ave. There is no room to expand in that spot. If someone had a proposal for an American football stadium of 45-50K located south of Marlins Stadium (aside from financial aspects, nobody would cry over demolishing a blighted area), I would be rushing to sign petitions. I keep hearing vague allusions to a 40K soccer stadium, but that's not what is proposed.

Show me a plan for a legitimate American football site that satisfies what Beckham is seeking.

Thank you for the effort and for using far less curse words than I would have to make this point.

The idea here is to show MLS that this is a viable option and site. So yes the renditions are soccer based. So yeah this is a soccer driven drawing and push. Once we get Beckham on board then we go with the football discussions. There are drawings being made as we speak showing the football renditions, but again, without MLS/Beckham approval this is a no go. Support the cause in getting Beckham and his group to consider this site a viable option. That is all this petition is asking. The backroom discussions are already taking place and UM is on board. But we need Beckham and MLS to agree. Very simple actually

I'm sorry, but you just verified that this petition and discussion are about soccer, not American football. The premise seems to be "get a soccer stadium and maybe it will morph into a viable American football stadium". Why not just be honest about it? You want an MLS soccer team/stadium. I don't believe for a second that this is about UM football except as a devious way to get UM fans to support your soccer dreams.

BTW, I'm not anti-soccer. I just think this push for a soccer stadium is being intentionally misrepresented as an opportunity for UM football.

I signed this. I applaud you for doing something. I also have to commend you for actually showing some command of the English language in your petition.

Have seen similar petitions on this web forum in the past, you could always tell it was written by some high school kid or some idiot or something.

Yours was well-written and professional, so I signed it.

To anyone moping about this or *****ing at this guy for trying to make something happen.

Conversations that have already transpired dictate that MLS would use the stadium 40 times a year, UM would use it 6-7. Outreach is currently happening with Entertainment prospects for support as well to be used outside of the combined 47 games.

The largest problem with using the Tropical Park site is the impact fees that would be charged in addition to PARKING. You have to remember that a STADIUM needs real POWER, SEWAGE and Water not including fill, roads and infrastructure. That is what was already paid for within the $125 Million in impact fees that were dished out at the OB Site(mentioned within the Petition narrative). The new facility would not need to pay these fees since the buildout has already occurred. Tropical Park is just a Park and would need all of that buildout prior to raising a single beam for a stadium. Tropical Park site is out.

We are all Big Cane fans but we have to be realistic on costs. Heck, I live close to Tropical Park so I would love to see it happen there. But, if we really want a stadium that is close to campus, we really need to look at the most feasible solution. The OB site is it.

If you agree, please sign the petition.

How would the MLS use the stadium 40 times per year?

There are only 40 games in the MLS season and half the games are going to be away games.

I don't know how else to tell you that this is being discussed as a legitimate option for UM. Clearly nothing aside from Donna calling you personally will convince you. Either way, what does it hurt to support this effort? Either they can make it work or they cannot. Nothing to lose here folks.

+ playoffs, + Lamar Hunt US Open Cup games, + CONCACAF Champions League if the team qualifies. + friendlies. + reserve league games.

Stop acting like you know wtf you are talking about. It's obvious you don't.

If Beckham and his group decide to go with this site, then there is a chance to convert the stadium into a 45k dual purpose stadium. It isn't going to happen anywhere else. The first step is them getting on board. This is the site the county and city commissioners are pushing for, they also want the canes as part of the deal. Beckham's group wants the land for free and having the canes involved helps get that done. Also, UM is willing to partially fund some of the construction if this can get done.

Dingaan1828....

You are seriously missing the point. As several sources have stated in mainstream media, originally MLS was interested in the OB site back near 2008. It was a part of the original deal. As early as the beginning of this year, MLS reached out to UM to consider the FEC slip near the AAA arena. UM had two issues: 1) Beckham wanted UM to invest but not own. 2) There is zero tailgate, parking areas at the FEC slip location. UM pulls out, Commissioners of MDC and City see the issues and vote the item down.

Move forward a week since the vote, City Commissioners have voted yes to get Beckham to stay in the City of Miami. Conversations with UM top brass have transpired with ownership interest in a Dual purpose stadium at the OB site and we have garnished 8000+ signatures by UM fans to advise Beckhams group that we want them here and we want them to support this concept. Representatives of Beckham's group were engaged as early as this past monday. Conversations with them continued today.

You seem to be a person that likes to scream about things on this forum when you have ZERO access to the insiders trying to make this happen. I suggest you jump on the train because there are forces beyond you that are moving forward with this concept. Or continue to scream at a wall. Its Up to you.
