BRING THE CANES HOME - PETITION

Only hurricane fans would stop someone trying to make a necessary change.

Stephen Ross is more of the reason and a 25 year lease. We won't buy out coaches, how the heck would be buy out the lease.

A has nothing to do with B.

A is someone trying to build momentum and supporting a worthwhile cause. A may never have success, he may never get us there but I am not going to be a cack sucker and try to impede his momentum (not you just the board).

B is an unknown. Please let me know about the buyout. I do agree that our admin is terrible and has no forward thinking (i.e. a plan for the future), this doesn't mean that it isn't doable. It doesn't mean that A shouldn't build momentum.

I don't want to digress from OP's effort too much, but on option 3..... if some super wealthy donor came to UM telling them he'd like to partner on getting a stadium built at Trop, what $ figure would he have to throw out there so that the University would say "OK, let's do it". $50m? 100? 150? I know the stadium would be more than 50m, but I'd have to think the University would work with someone willing to donate that and raise some $ on their own, right?

I don't think you will get an accurate guess/estimation on here.

My guess is that you would not only need to come with MONEY but with a PLAN.

I would also like to point out that this is not just a sunk cost, this stadium would generate revenue. Let's discuss these revenues:

1. No more splitting revenues: Since this is our venue, it is our revenue. I have no idea of the split we have with Ross (50/50, 70/30, 40/60) but we could avoid this split when it is fully our stadium. Since we're not splitting, more revenue.

2. Naming rights: We could sell the naming rights, like we did with the BankUnited Center and generate more revenue.

As a frame of reference (college sports): http://businessofcollegesports.com/data/naming-rights-deals/

My guess is you could sell them (per year) for at least $500,000.00

3. Concerts, Events and the other 360-361 days a year.

A small minded person would think the stadium would only be used 6-7 times per year and that is all. Well since we own it and we paid for it, perhaps we should use it for other revenue generating purposes (we do this for the BankUnited Center).

I'm just trying to figure out which lottery tickets I need to be buying. Do I need to hold out for the $200m+ pots, or is 50m going to get it done.

Conversations that have already transpired dictate that MLS would use the stadium 40 times a year, UM would use it 6-7. Outreach is currently happening with Entertainment prospects for support as well to be used outside of the combined 47 games.

The largest problem with using the Tropical Park site is the impact fees that would be charged in addition to PARKING. You have to remember that a STADIUM needs real POWER, SEWAGE and Water not including fill, roads and infrastructure. That is what was already paid for within the $125 Million in impact fees that were dished out at the OB Site(mentioned within the Petition narrative). The new facility would not need to pay these fees since the buildout has already occurred. Tropical Park is just a Park and would need all of that buildout prior to raising a single beam for a stadium. Tropical Park site is out.

We are all Big Cane fans but we have to be realistic on costs. Heck, I live close to Tropical Park so I would love to see it happen there. But, if we really want a stadium that is close to campus, we really need to look at the most feasible solution. The OB site is it.

If you agree, please sign the petition.

I think if you went to the school and presented $50 Million (by yourself) and tied it to the football stadium, I think they would MORE than listen.

Did you win last night?

You guys still have doubts that this is REAL?

Miami commission takes symbolic vote for David Beckam's MLS dream after rejecting stadium site
@Patricia Mazzei
We want Major League Soccer in Miami, and we want David Beckham to own the franchise, Miami city commissioners said Thursday.
In a symbolic show of support for Beckham's group, the commission took a unanimous voice vote in favor of the resolution, which came two days after the city dismissed the investors' proposal to build a 20,000-seat stadium on Museum Park and the Florida East Coast Railway boat slip.
Commissioners didn't exactly disagree with that decision, taken by Mayor Tomás Regalado and City Manager Daniel Alfonso. Three out of five commissioners -- Frank Carollo, Marc Sarnoff and Francis Suarez -- said they had concerns about turning over the waterfront property for a stadium.
But Carollo and Suarez also chided the administration for not bringing the issue to a public discussion on the dais.
"In business negotiations, there's a way to do things and a way not to do things," Carollo said. The way the city handled the short-lived talks, he added "really could turn someone off."
Alfonso noted that he telephoned commissioners when Beckham's group floated an initial rent number of $500,000 a year. That number went up to $2 million Tuesday, but by then, Alfonso and Regalado had made up their minds in opposition.
Sarnoff, the district commissioner who was more involved, agreed.
"They could have offered us the $15 million (in rent) and I still wasn't going to be supportive of a soccer stadium at that venue," he said.
He said he hoped Miami Beckham United would take a close look at city-owned property next to the Miami Marlins' ballpark in Little Havana. Carollo, who represents that area, was more cautious about targeting that site, even as he sponsored the pro-MLS resolution.
"That does not mean that we're going to give away the land," he said.

Help us gather the support that we need to send the message to Beckham!

I agree. What is worse- renting a stadium from an NFL team or renting a stadium for a soccer team? I hate Joe Robbie but my Lord, taking recruits to a little girl stadium, please. If a stadium can be built close to the hallowed grounds of the OB, then is should be for THE U and only THE U. Let's get Howard to chair up a committee to raise the money and make it happen. It was his dream to have on campus stadium in Miami. That is not happening but this could. It would give Howard a chance to leave as a CANE and not an Owl. ***** soccer, build one for our own. For all you Donna lovers, isn't she big enough to make this happen? She pulls it off and we give her a statue. Build our own next to the Marlin place. Raise up the ghosts. Raise Cane and let lose the big dogs!!!!!

Well why not support Beckham in trying to build a stadium at Tropical Park? I still think the best place for a stadium for us is on campus or there. So If the problem with Tropical park is money, then teaming up with Beckham would be the perfect solution. I mean they are basically saying they will pay for the entire stadium themselves, so I'm sure we could add a little bit of money ourselves so that the stadium can be at least 50k seats and as close to the sideline as possible....

I love this whole ******* debate. My favorite part, when idiots say they don't want to partner with Beckham because we'd be playing in a 'soccer stadium.'

Lulz.

Just what do you think Sun Lifeless is, you bunch of addle-headed morons?

Wait so the logic here is.....The place we are in sucks ballzz. So we should be completely satisfied with a place that only sucks one ball.

Sure thing.

This would be great for us, but I think there's no way Beckham's group goes for it.

Put yourself in their shoes. What's in it for them?

I'm afraid this is nothing more than some politicians trying to score some goodwill points with the people. But here's to hoping something happens and we end up with a shared stadium.

“We feel, I think, even though we’re not from Miami, that it’s a little spiritually tainted,” he said, referring to the unpopularity of the public financing deal for the ballpark.

Fuller also said that the baseball stadium, with its retractable roof and more than 36,000 seats, would eclipse an open-air soccer stadium next door, which at that site might only be able to seat 20,000. Beckham’s group is more interested in a 25,000-seat stadium that could have more seats added later if the team is successful.

Soccer won’t work if it starts off as Miami’s “fifth sport,” according to Fuller, after football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey. He called the Marlins site “a horrendous disservice to a massive ambitious, exciting prospect.”
