Brashard Smith is fast

Great speed with ball in his hands but couldn't seem to master route running hence his switch to rb. He's found himself a nice little niche with special teams & gadget runs. The right NFL team will make good use of him.

But have you followed him this year? I think it goes beyond gadget runs, he is just a full time RB now.

Last game he had 26 carries for 117 and here are some of his other games this season:

13 for 52
17 for 129
18 for 127
14 for 75
9 for 108
12 for 70

I mean he is eclipsing or averaging basically 15 carries a game. Do you remember Lashlee's running game? Unless he completely switched up he doesnt have that many gadget runs in the playbook. Smith is just the starting RB now he took the spot from Knighton who only has 12 carries on the season.

He is their main RB and lines up there. He had the game winning 25 yard TD against Duke. Ran right through the A gap after Manny's patented DL stunt cleared a massive hole. There was not a defender in sight once he got through the hole.

Yeah that was a classic Diaz call. I assume there was supposed to be a LB to fill, but there wasn't one...

I think he'll be lucky to make an NFL roster.

I'd be surprised if Brashard doesn't make the NFL, because:

He's been really good as a runner
He'll be a better receiver than most RB's
He's a great returner
He should test well athletically

We're set & have been healthy at RB so we haven't missed/needed Smith - but on any team in any system, Smith is just a straight up good RB.

He will test well athletically, no doubt. I suspect he's smaller than the 5'10" 196 that he's listed at, however.

He's small for an NFL RB, and he doesn't have the skill to be an NFL WR.

He's not a good pass blocker.

Returner is his best shot.

I was bummed when Brashard left. Mario & staff decided to prioritize Ray Ray Joseph over Brashard. I did not agree with that move.

I also think Brashard could have been the difference in the 2023 FSU game. The coaching staff stuck with Mark Fletcher in the backfield when it was clear that Fletcher was playing too slow for FSU's D. I thought Brashard should have gotten 5-10 carries in the second half of that game.

One man's opinion.

Smith's height/weight will be very important, no question. He's on the very small end.

But I don't see a reason to think he'll be much different than the 5-10/196 he's listed as.

That's not far from Travis Homer 5-10/201 or Mark Walton 5-10/202

In PFF P4 RB rankings, Smith is currently:

#3 Rusher
#1 Receiver
#1 Overall
Rated higher as a pass blocker than Martinez & Fletcher

His receiving skills aren't NFL WR quality, but compared to other RB's he'll be better than 90% of them

Size & Off-Field/Attitude will be his negatives, but IMO you're underselling his positives

I wish him well in making and staying in the NFL.

You're not wrong. The "overturned" safety before the half was a back-breaker, but we needed something dynamic to happen on offense to get that game in our favor, and other than JG3's long TD it wasn't happening.

Side note, I do think had we done some work and created a "Jacurri" red zone package that was 90% runs we would have won FSU and NC State, too. Little things, big differences.

I mean Miami's offense is obviously fine but the coaches ****ed up not playing him more last year. Dawson is solid but he does not excel at getting the ball to specific players if they're not in a traditional role.

Also low mileage as a runner with a strong senior year as his first full time role at the position. Strong upside for a later pick. A team is going to draft him. If he doesn’t last at RB he has special teams to fall back on to carve a career.

I don't share the opinion on a Jacurri Brown package. The moment Jacurri entered that game, Norvell and staff would have put 11 defenders in the box. The only way a Jacurri package would have worked was if it was a pass-first game plan. There's a reason why Jacurri's package (awkward pause) was always floated yet never used by the coaching staff during TVD's injuries.

100% agree.

A hitch is it's going to be a really, really deep draft at RB (assuming most JR's come out).

I'd lean towards him getting drafted, but don't think it's a given. But I'd be very surprised if he doesn't at least end up on a practice squad.

Knighton injured his knee early in the season and is out for the year. Only played in parts of 2 games. Not sure if he was dealing with the injury to start the year or what... Either way, real nice season for brashard. Wish he had stuck around. He was one of the transfers I was bummed about. Thought miami never really used him properly
