Brandon Taylor (Track Commit)

If hes on a track scholarship, he doesnt count against the football count. Its no different than what butch did with santana.

Dmoney-is taylor still joining the football team?

Good question. This story just came out last week:

Fastest sprinter in Texas Brandon Taylor has still not ruled out football at Miami

Numbers, for better or worse, tend to define Clear Brook (Friendswood, Texas) senior wide receiver Brandon Taylor.

For the better part, Taylor is the fastest sprinter in Texas, and third-fastest in the country under any conditions, according to athletic.net.

Taylor ran the 100 meters in a wind-aided time of 10.38 seconds at the Texas Southern Relays last month. His best wind-legal time of 10.50 — fourth-best in the country — was set Saturday while winning at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin.

Because of other numbers, namely his size — 5 feet, 7 inches and 145 pounds — Taylor is only graded as a 2-star football recruit by 247Sports, the No. 298 recruit in Texas from the Class of 2016.

He'll attend the University of Miami on a track scholarship, which he's accepted. But he hasn't ruled out playing football for the Hurricanes.

Taylor was a wide receiver, running back and kick returner for Clear Brook. He showed good hands and wasn't afraid of contact. And clearly, judging from his video highlights, creates separation with the best of them.

Have the UM coaches said anything regarding him? Richt clearly wants more speed. Enter this kid, albeit he is very undersized. But just the threat of his speed threatens to blow the top off the defense at any time. Ill be severely disappointed if this kid wants to be a part of the program and isnt at. Least given a shot.

He will count against football scholarship numbers as soon as he straps on the pads. The NCAA changed the rules on that awhile back. Another anti-Miami rule, so that kind of stuff don't happen anymore.

Let's see: smaller guy with lots of speed. That sound very familiar, oh yeah, it sound like a ton of JJ football players. This guy is small but if he is not playing DT, I do not care. Suit the kid up and see if anyone and see if anyone can tackle him.

This is correct.

For all of us recruiting vets, Tory Mitchell (RIP) Part 2? For those that don't know him, He was a Texas sprint champ back in the 90s who ran an absurd 10.2 or something. He was also a heck of a football player. I watched some practices with him and he would run effortlessly stride for stride when matched up with Santana. Elite level athlete.

It is not correct. The rule has not changed much at all. There is a lot of misinformation about Santana Moss. This is what happened with Santana:

PITTSBURGH — Apparently, University of Miami coach Butch Davis' coy references to freshman receiver Santana Moss playing were well-founded.

In somewhat of a surprise move before Thursday's 21-17 loss, UM announced Moss, a walk-on from Carol City, has been awarded the football scholarship once reserved for fellow walk-on receiver Aaron Moser.

Moss, who debuted midway through the first quarter, now apparently becomes the 15th and final scholarship recipient from UM's 1997 probation-reduced class.

Moss was attending UM on a track scholarship and it was thought Moss' participation in football would put UM over its limit of 15 scholarships for 1997.

NCAA rules state once a scholarship athlete plays a down of football he automatically becomes a ``football counter,'' meaning his presence counts toward the school's limit of annual football scholarships.

That rule is in place to keep schools from recruiting football players and hiding them with scholarships in other sports, thereby getting around the limit of 85 football scholarships.

In past conversations, Davis hinted there was a chance Moss might be able to play this year, but Davis also said in those conversations UM had awarded all 15 of its 1997 scholarships.

This is the current rule:

15.5.9 Multisport Participants.

15.5.9.1 Football. [FBS/FCS] In football, a counter who was recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8) and/or offeredfinancial aid to participate in football and who participates (practices or competes) in football and one or moresports (including basketball) shall be counted in football. A counter who was not recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8)and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who competes in football and one or more sports (includingbasketball) shall be counted in football. (Revised: 1/10/95 effective 8/1/95, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 1/15/11effective 8/1/11)

If you were not recruited for football, you must compete (play in a game). If you were recruited for football, you count if you merely practice.

Tory Mitchell from Big Springs Texas was a kid I was excited about he ran a 10.23 100 meters and he went to the same high school that Bubba Franks attended
