BJs Wednesday Buzz Column

There are no objective statistics that support Dorito supporters. He's fielded the worst defenses in the last decade + for Miami.

The only thing they have to go on is to say he has no talent to work with. Bull-*******-****. There are players on our team that had offers from elite programs. The man isn't getting it done and to argue otherwise is ignorant.

After reading the piece, I expect a full out 3-4 scheme. It's what fits our personnel the best. Pierre, Moore and Wyche can play the Nose position. Add Moten and Valentine and we should alright there. I do think we need another JUCO NT. at the ends, you will have Chick, Kamalu, Hamilton, and Chad Thomas coming in that should be able to play as a true frosh.

OLB's, you have McCord, AQM, and a bunch of unproven guys. And why I think we need to go with at least one JUCO player here. Holiett is unproven and then you have true freshmen competing for significant playing time like McCray and Smith who neither would seem to be ready.

Inside, it would be huge if DP comes back. Not only does he add experience and solid play, but it would allow Figs to play that outside backer which is where is suited the best. If DP leaves, Figs will have to play inside along with Kirby and Armbrister.

Bottomline, we can reduce some of our deficiencies with the 3-4. The 4-3 just adds more stress to an already thin depth front seven.

I seriously hope Golden isn't going to use the depth excuse again next year.

I seriously expect he will.

The truth is we have both issues, talent and scheme.

The lack of talent explains why we aren't a national contender. Why we were never a legitimate top 15 team.
The inadequate coaching explains a lot more. The dreadfully close games with GT, UNC, Wake Forest. The loss to VT. The disaster at Duke.

We need better talent. We need more depth. But I don't think it'll make all that much of a difference if we don't get better coaching to go with it.

Watching seniors Cornelius and Highsmith look completely inept out there and not even giving a guy like Grace or Jamal Carter a chance is mind boggling.

At least we're not getting smoke blown up our behinds about the current state of the team... This article was very discouraging, but yet encouraging as well. We are 2 years away from being a national champion contender. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In essence, this is what we can expect for next year: 1) more growing pains on defense and 2) more Doritos...

Al, my man....
You gotta be fuggin kidding me. You are not allowed to say we are trying to get more speed on the field and then take your SLOWEST DE and put him in COVERAGE!!! Dude, you make yourself look like a fuggin idiot. I could accept that theory if you then threw Grace out there or even Carter on the slot guy, but GREEN? I could not believe my eyes this past weekend when I saw him in coverage not once but on TWO STRAIGHT plays! You mean to tell me with all the spped on this team, all the speed in sofla that the best slot coverage guy we got is Shyaon Green?

I do not think AL should be fired however, I would like to see someone ask him some real tough questions and then actually follow up on his answers with some actual knowledge of football. I mean come on AL, you gotta be kidding me...

Chad Thomas is not a 3-4 DE and if he ends up there I'll officially be done with this staff.

And all this talk about freshmen contributing on the DL, you can forget about it.

Ugh, next year is really gonna suck. Not landing one quality DT last year was an absolute killer. Golden has to land at least 2 Juco DTs and a Juco LB or two to have any hope of even winning 6 games next year

OK. We're going to be stuck with the 119th ranked defense in college football for like 73 more years.

Got it.

You just know the staff is gonna use Thomas the same way they're using Chick right now.

Looks like this reporter fell into the its a process and we are developing what we have coach speak at the podem. The fix for this is change the schemes to your personnel and your opponents personnel like an actual f'n gameplan most defensive coaches try to do in football. Hey if they get beat cause the other guy made a great play then so be it cause its football and it happens but to continually play this style with these groupings and not scheming an opponent will be the end of this staff. These kids have played alot of football to know what their job is on any given play or formation when the defense is called. Atleast 2 guys on the field should know where everyone should be. So I call B.S. about the lack of talent and cant stop these offenses. I could see FSU racking up yards and GT always is going to get their rushing numbers cause of that offense but there is no way a legit coaching staff can have our D align and group the way we do and expect us to get stops with it. Its frustratingly funny to see write ups like this and think fans actually fall into this trap to believe what they say we lack talent. Coaching is suppose to mask talent issues with scheme and gameplanning. I feel like some of us are beating a dead horse with this talk.

Talks about our incoming linebackers but doesn't mention Darrion Owens. Kid is an animal.

Think you're going to be disappointed a/b Chad Thomas not being played there down the road. What indicates to you the coaches are going to use him any differently than Chick? They'll likely ask him to gain some weight (as they do with virtually all of our front 7 players) and, considering he played inside in HS, they'll view him as a "versatile" guy.

**** it, Gundy let Bill Young go after last year, bring his old crazy *** (and I mean that literally, dude was certifiable) back.

More excuses.. Were not saying this team has top 10 talent on defense were saying we have top 30 and more than enough to win the ***** coastal and beat the 100th ranked VT offense and Duke.. And not give up 500 yards to 1-5 UNC or 4-5 Wake...

They articles talks about needing more agressive guys. We had those kids in Gianni gabe and Ej but they are gone. We have thy in figs and Kirby but they have to develop. The seniors are just glad they are playing for Miami.
