Bissainthe bomb on Cal's QB

It was a stupid play that could have easily been called. He wasn’t gonna get close. Just wrap up there. It was awesome though.

All night our defense was unsound but they got it done I guess. We really got to get back to basics with tackling.

We got lucky, with the attention of last weeks call I’m surprised this one went our way. Wes needs to just rap up they were still 7 yards short of the 1st down.

Did you see him afterwards? Dude was just chilling on the sidelines like nothing happened. I was like ohhhh this guy did some good acting on the ground cause he knew he was short and was hoping to get that call.
The give away was the fake head grab he did when he initially saw he didnt get the first like his head was ringing. I said yea hes acting because wes got mostly shoulder.

While walking off with his "injury" hes pointing to the ref to his head for targeting..someone targeted or concussed isnt that aware.

I wonder if the refs picked up on that. Probably not but that is a great point

NGL I was sure the targeting call would stick and I don't think we've ever gotten that benefit of the doubt in that situation. Also tbh I thought it was 50/50 and I'd probably be ****ed if the roles were reversed.

We need the rule to continue
- I went to high school with Mark Buoniconti - kid always tacked with the crown of his head
- The Columbus coaches always pulled him out of the game

However we do need to be careful that big hits dont equate to targeting
- in the stadium and the small replay screen - looked like targeting - but clearly not the case
I knew Mark. Good guy. He kind of kickstarted a revolution in teaching kids how to tackle properly. My high school coach was terrified of anyone getting a serious neck injury. I still see so many guys tackle while looking at the ground and it scares the crap out of me.

Forget the targeting debate. Elated to see us hit somebody with bad intentions after a couple games of **** poor tackling. Nice seeing a little physicality.

I am still beside myself how much pussification has crept into this game and our society.

And I’m not even talking about the actual game. Yes, it’s softer, it’s “safer”, etc. That’s fine, I’ve come to peace with it. But when all this stuff started getting called a few years ago, people were going out of their minds with the criticism, outrage, etc. We’ve done a complete 180 in just a few years. Now, people watch a QB break from the pocket, be fully aware of his surroundings, NOT be a defensive player, and get lit up by a backer and we all demand the kid gets kicked out of the game. Wtf has this world come to? Accepting these penalties is one thing. But watching a hard hit and WANTING it to be targeting, a foul, and ejection? I can’t even articulate how pathetic that **** is. It’s football. Dude ran thru a hole and got blasted. **** makes me sick how embarrassing the reaction to that play has been. It wasn’t dirty. It wasn’t cheap. It wasn’t late. There wasn’t an injury. Play ******* football.

Not the best picture at all but this hit on restrepo at roughly the 8:40 mark was as much of a target than wes.

IMHO, Wes was the only Canes defensive player in the back 7 who was consistently making defensive plays, not missing tackles and being where he is supposed to be the last couple of games.

Exactly. And if they call illegal man downfield on the last TD, who says we don’t still score?

It would have been 2nd and goal from about the 10 yard line.

There was nothing up to that point that would have indicated they would have stopped us 3 more times.
That was not a penalty. In college and high school, offensive linemen are allowed to go downfield before a forward pass is thrown as long as the pass is caught at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Stewart Mandel from the Athletic weighs in:

ACC replay officials got it right in overturning Virginia Tech’s last-second Hail Mary in Week 5, but they inexplicably whiffed on a missed targeting call that would have kept a Cal drive alive, up 38-31, with 1:46 left. Instead, the Bears (3-2, 0-2) punted, and Ward had his team in the end zone five plays later.

Hey dip****, watch the video. Mendoza DIPS HIS HEAD after Bissainthe takes off to make the tackle. If the QB stays upright, he gets hit in the upper am shoulder area.

No one has mentioned the QB as he was about to get hit - dropped his head and shoulders to a lower level that he had been running at.

Bissanthe had launched to hit - the QB lowered his shoulders and head a few inches - he's the one that scrunched down.

We've seen these before - someone lowers his head just before he gets hit - and somehow that's supposed to be targeting by the other player?

If he was hit so hard in the head that he was rolling around the ground in pain, why would he be put back in the game for the last drive? He would be in concussion protocol. The coaches and trainers know he was acting to get a penalty. He also tried to get the refs to call a penalty on a sack in an earlier drive.

I know a few peopled mentioned him as a transfer possibility. I don't want his whiny *** anywhere near this program.
