Bentavious Thompson?

It's a tough spot. As much as we hate it when kids yank Miami around, imagine being 18 years old, committed and then slow played. It's a brutal meritocracy.

Yeah it's a tough spot. I don't like it but it's just the way it is.

Surprised he is still committed

Probably loves the school

This is like when you're breaking up with a chick, but you don't wanna break her heart, so you kinda just ignore her, but she still doesn't get the message and hangs around even though you're pretty much openly flirting with her replacements. Rough.

Agreed but shouldn't the coaches just man up and tell him? It's a tough convo but the right thing to do. Then he can focus on other options. Better to get it over with then drag it out anyways imo

Southridge might not be too happy with us after this year.

Thompson hasn't even played a down of football for Southridge. And he just burned Killian, so I doubt they would care either

Nature of the beast. Kids flake out on schools & schools flake out on the kids. Recruiting is not for the faint of heart. Wish the kid well.

Meanwhile Saban personally offered Kemore Gamble according to 247. Probably trying to get into that school to land Pope for 2018. He don't give a **** about processing these kids.

Maybe they have and maybe they haven't. Richt seems like a straight shooter and perhaps the young man just isn't hearing what is being told to him. It is probably something along the lines of us being after some other guys, right now you have a spot, and we'll see how it all plays out. I imagine it would be said more delicately, but that should be the gist of it.

This ^^^^^ is the best analogy that I've seen on this board.

He's pushing it to the point where you get so frustrated with the chick not taking the hints that you finally snap out of desperation to ease your pain and say "Look... I just don't want to be with you!!!"

Can Richt do that diplomatically or is it a problem pulling an offer made by Folden?

When you offer a kid a scholarship, I don't think you pull it just because you found somebody better. The kid has done nothing wrong, all you can do is let him know that it will be tough for him to get any playing time behind these more talented guys.

Richt didn't offer him from what I'm seeing.

Did Richt and Co. actually re-up the offer that Golden had made to Thompson? It's never been too clear.

I hope the kid doesn't read this board. This whole recruiting game has become vicious, from both the perspective of the coaches and the players (and the fans). One has to have pretty thick skin to stay sane through the process.

I liked Kemore but he wasn't a good fit body type wise. A bit of a tweener and we've already got one of those in Irvin Jr.

I agree in general 27th what you are saying but my question really is based on what I believe is an original offer made by the previous coach and whether it is customary for a subsequent coach to be bound by and honor the previous staff's offers???

I believe that the offer is officially from the University, not from the head coach. I'm sure it's common for a new staff to have different priorities from the old one, but I still feel bad for the kid. By the way, it also sucks when it happens you other way around. We've had kids who were committed to us and then sign with another school.
