4/20/13: Miami today offered WDE prospect Grant Harris from Clinton, Mississippi. Grant is rated 86 and ranks as the #26 WDE in the nation by the 247Sports Composite.

Check out this young man's size (6'-4.5" / 255). Coaches really like his length and reach. While he's only a two star on one board (thanks Paranos), it appears the Canes really like Harris. I've heard he's high on our WDE board. Paranos also reported that Grant has a 3.2 GPA. However, it appears Miss. State is the leader at this point. He has an established relationship with the coaching staff at MSU. More to come...

Random thoughts... a change in strategy???

Since early April, I noticed a change in recruiting strategy by our Canes. First, there's been a subtle change of target areas. It appears we have shifted from recruiting near home (So. Fla.) to Georgia and surrounding states. Second, we appear to be shifting from offensive prospects to defensive prospects. Eighteen of twenty-four offers since the start of April have been on that side of the ball. If intentional, this would be a reversal from last year when Miami went strong for OOS prospects early in the process and then Florida kids late. Perhaps it was another lesson learned by our staff. So far, the results have been amazing or perhaps the winding down of the ncaa investigation is opening opportunities for us. Something to think about and discuss.

"With one word, ESPN 150 wide receiver K.D. Cannon (Mount Pleasant, Texas/Mount Pleasant) further piqued the interest of Texas Tech followers and supporters.

When asked about his thoughts on Texas Tech's spring game Saturday, Cannon responded with, “Outstanding.”

4/8/13: ESPN Recruiting Nation reports today on K.D. Cannon…

K.D. is an explosive and versatile receiver. Can really separate himself from DBs. Can play inside or outside. He can stretch the field and makes plays in space. K.D. can take a short reception and turn it into a long TD. He has many offers but Baylor may have the lead.


3/25/13: The Miami Hurricanes have offered KD Cannon from Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Cannon is rated 98 and ranked the #4 WR in the nation by 247Sports Composite.

FSU and Wisconsin had the early lead here, but DaeJuan has been flooded recently with new offers. He’s examining all his options now, which means the Canes have a fair chance to impact his recruitment. However, we’ll need to get him to campus to increase our chances.

4/21/13: Miami offers QB prospect Donovan Isom from Destrehan, La. Donovan is rated 84 and ranks as the #48 PRO Passer in the nation by 247Sports Composite. However, only 247 Sports has rated and ranked this prospect. Look for them to change in the future.

Donovan is a big athlete QB with a cannon arm. However, he’s very raw. Upside is J. Russell of LSU days. Low side is J. Russell of the Raiders. Obvious project for Coach Coley.

4/24/13: ITU posted an article on SDE Jeremiah Clarke today. Clarke knows all about Miami.

“It’s the ‘U’, I was just watching their 30 for 30 on Sunday,” Clarke said. “I’ve never been there but I feel like I know a lot about them. I’ve seen a couple of their games and they need defensive linemen. They can offer me a chance to get some playing time. They’re a private school and they have a great education, That’s important to me because I’ve thought about life after football.”

4/24/13: ITU posted an article today on DT Elisha Shaw. Shaw doesn’t know much about Miami, but he knows his idol went there…

“I don’t know anything about Miami except my idol went there,” Shaw said. “Ray Lewis, he goes so hard. You can’t tell him he can’t do something because he’ll prove you wrong. His effort is crazy on the field and off the field.”

Shaw wants to get to know more about and hopes to make a trip to Coral Gable this spring or summer, depending on who can drive him to campus.

Although his numbers are not gaudy, it’s because of his role on defense. His HS eam plays a 3-4 and he responsible for tying up the OL so his linebackers can move in fo the kill.

This first report since his UM offer was better than I expected. We might have a fiar chance.

4/18/13: Miami has offered DT prospect Elisha Shaw from Tucker, Georgia. Shaw is rated 97 and ranks as the #2 DT prospect in the nation by the 247Sports Composite. Elisha stands 6'-5" at 295 lbs. More to come.

Arrion is rated 92 and ranks as the #15 CB in the nation by the 247Sports Composite. Springs stands at 5'-11" and 192 lbs. with a 40 time of 4.48. The Canes are leading right now but look out for Oregon. It appears Arrion wants to go away for college. More to come.

UM Football Scholarship "Offers" - April 23, 2013

As of today, the Canes have offered 135 scholarships for the 2014 recruiting class. About 35 of those prospects have committed to other schools or have indicated little interest in UM. Miami is actively recruiting 100 prospects at this time. Yes, some of our offers are conditional (non-commutable). Six of those offers have resulted in verbal commitments.

"Samuel didn’t perform on the same level as Godwin, but he was outstanding this past weekend. He didn’t get to play with quarterback Jalen Wheeler both days, which hurts, but he still lived up to the hype. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound receiver has offers from Ohio State, Miami, Rutgers and others, but I’d give the edge to Syracuse at this point."
