surprising a kid from dbp would have grade problems. maybe that's just nd's way of spinning it if he doesn't pick them.

That is the way all fan bases spin it when they are dumped. Cane fans lead the way.

One of the BIG things with ND since forever has been there unwaivering insistence that ALL incoming students take Calculus first semester. That has derailed the recruitment of MANY players over the years. Randy Moss comes to mind with this exact circumstance. Also, ND stopped recruiting T.J. Duckett (Michigan State RB) and David Terrell (Michigan WR) for this same reason.

I'm not saying I know for sure what's going on, but the last few times "not qualifying to ND for academic reasons" has come up, it has been the Calculus issue.

FWIW the Calculus thing isn't true, and Randy Moss actually signed with ND.

as someone else said, moss signed w/ nd. never heard that before and been following recruiting for over 20 years. never heard that come up once or heard a recruit ever say that.

I was incorrect about Moss. Read this article for the correct information

Being from Michigan, I've been around ND and their recruiting long enough to know a bit about that. The Calculus thing, while incorrectly referenced with Moss, is a very VERY real issue and has been addressed by recruits, coaches (ND and others) and multiple media outlets multiple times over the last 15-20 years.

Look it up.

Well it's only true if you're majoring in science, engineering, or business. I can absolutely see that causing problems for recruits who are interested in majoring in business.

No no. Notre Dame is on record as saying EVERY INCOMING FRESHMAN must take Calculus. Straight from the Notre Dame website for First Year Studies

You mean this one?

To complete the requirements of the First Year of Studies, all students must take two semesters of mathematics. Programs in the Colleges of Business, Engineering, and Science, as well as the School of Architecture require calculus. If you intend to continue in one of these colleges, you should complete two semesters of calculus during your first year. If you intend to enter the College of Arts and Letters, you may satisfy the mathematics requirement with math courses other than calculus, including logic and finite mathematics.

I see this requirement posing problems for lots of recruits because a lot of recruits want to major in business, finance, etc. but not every freshman has to take calculus.

Well ****.

That is such a stupid requirement. That eliminates almost 99% of college athletes.

Stupid for them but GREAT for us. They are the dumb fools. Some folks, including myself, are not math oriented, but we do very well in other courses.

***** them and welcome AQM!
