There was some surprising news out of Naples High School last week when starting quarterback Kilton Anderson decided to transfer more than 3,000 miles away to Skyline High School in Seattle, Wash. Last year, Anderson led the Golden Eagles to the state semifinals where they lost to eventual state champion Miami Central.
Anderson has stated that the move is for recruiting as he looks for a more QB-friendly system for today’s wide-open passing attacks. Skyline has produced back-to-back national quarterback recruits with Max Browne (USC) and Jake Heaps (Kansas via BYU).
As for Naples, coach Bill Kramer said it best during a pep talk: “I don’t want to talk about who’s not here and what we don’t have. You feel me? I want to talk about the great players, the commitment that we do have at Naples High. That’s what I’m talking about. ... We’ll move some guys around to make it fit, to put you in the absolute best position for our team, which comes first.”
Naples has been one of the state’s Top 10 programs since 2000, making deep playoff runs, including two state titles (2001 and 2007).
