Anyone looked at the Coastal Schedule?

QUOTE]

Pay close attention to the word "senior" . That list doesn't account for early entries. The 40th ranked senior tackle isn't a legit NFL talent, nor is the 13th ranked senior QB.

LULZ at UM fans worrying about Duke. You know how you solve Duke's light schedule? You beat them, which we will certainly do.[/QUOTE

If they get drafted at ALL at DUke, it's legit NFL talent. This year Duke may have around 5 players drafted which i would have to believe is a school record. They have a OG ranked higher than any Miami OG. They have a WR who is one of the elite playmakers in the entire country. They have a LB who should get drafted top 4 rounds. They have a S more higher regarded right now by NFL scouts than Miami does. I think right now Miami would love to have a proven QB in Boone going into the season.

Oh and what the poster is getting at is even if we BEAT DUKE by half a hundred, we could still lose out on the Coastal, because we play at Louisville and FSU at home, while Duke has a charmin soft schedule, so beating Duke may not EVEN matter.

I like how these pre-bull chit draft predictions mean something all of the sudden. I didn't know the quality of the opponent was determined by CBS sports PRE-SEASON DRAFT analysis. Maybe we can bribe some of these analysts.

No, it's a combination of several things as I pointed out above. Duke has been getting better year by year. It's not like they were 2-10, then won 10 the next year like a fluke. They have been building under Cutcliffe for years, they have a veteran team that won 10 games last year, and they could be even better this year, AND they now have legit NFL talent.

You know the same way we stomped Duke in bball a few years back, their fans didn't want to acknowledge we were actually good in basketball, it's the same with Miami fans and Duke football. They are a really solid football team, we should still beat them at home, IF we have a QB who can perform, BUT that still doesn't mean we will win the Coastal. Their schedule is so soft.

Bold Part: Duke could be getting better but last year they over achieved and they had some luck on their side.

Duke will not be better this year and that is because of two reasons.

1. Last year was a fluke (take a look at the VT or UNC game), and

2. Brandon Connette is gone and he took 27 TDs with him.

If Duke accomplishes another 10-2 (regular season) and wins the coastal, I would say that last year for them wasn't a fluke. Let's see it again.

Underlined Part:

There is a major difference between what we did in basketball and what Duke did in football. We actually won THE WHOLE CONFERENCE. Duke had a weird season and barely won the coastal. They didn't match the success of our basketball team. Our Coach (in basketball) is Elite. David Cutcliffe is nowhere near that level. The similarity is that both coaches were able to maximize the ability of inferior talent yet the level of success was different.

As for their fans, I don't care what they acknowledge as that is irrelevant for our game against them.

On a side note: Our defense really chit their diaper against Duke. 48 points. 358 Rushing Yards. 5 Rushing TDs.

And I'm not generally a mope.

gacaneaddict, I appreciate your reverence for Duke. You want to point out 3 or 4 seniors on their club who might get drafted as some sort of claim that they're generally a talented team. That would be a good argument in a sport like basketball where only 5 to 8 guys play. Look at overall talent and depth of talent. It's no contest when you do that.

Duke doesn't recruit from the same pool that UM does. They don't even usually get a shot at the next level down from there. What they have is a REALLY good HC in Dave Kuntsniff. They have a couple dynamic players like Crowder and the LB, whose name escapes me. But overall depth of talent isn't their calling card.

Duke has potential All-ACC QB Boone, WR Crowder, TE Deaver, OL Tomlinson, DB Cash, LB Brown. They had Ross ****rell get drafted in the 4th round. We don't beat them in 2012 if not for Duke Johnson going berzerk. We should finally be able to start out-talenting them again but they were picked to finish second in the coastals for a reason.

To say that Duke doesn't have some talent is laughable.

That said, he really is following kind of a poor man's Stanford model. Get the best 2-3* guys that all stay for 4-5 years and develop them. You can make a 6'3 260 2* OL out of high school into a pretty good player after three years of good coaching, S&C programs, great nutrition, etc…Think about what the typical kid going to play football at Duke is like. He knows that college football is his ceiling and therefore knows that the next 4-5 years are his last playing football ever. He won't make a living do it, so he does well in class and stays out of trouble. Gets a world-class education, etc. Those are the kids that work their balls off, gym rats, film room rats, leaders…
you don't win national championships with those kids, far from it, but you can put together a really solid program if you have a coach that is a superior recruiter (finding the right guys, not necessarily the most talented) and X's and O's guy.

Boone is not an all ACC qb. He couldn't even go full time starter last year. 1:1 TD Int ratios aren't a good thing. We were up early and stalled last year allowing a come back. With Duke in our offense I think we win.

The reasons I think Boone is an All-ACC candidate:

1. The rest of the QBs in the ACC aside from Winston are largely unproven

2. He's got all of his weapons back from last year and doesn't have Connette stealing snaps.

I also think we beat them with Duke Johnson, just like we did in 2012.

He's an all ACC QB candidate because everyone else is unproven? Some argument. And not really an endorsement at all.

He played one **** of a bowl game. 427 yards and three TDs. And I guess yo mother****ing sorry *** forgot to read item #2.

I hope Tech can handle powerhouse Wofford. Almost as weak as Duke opening with Elon or UNC with Liberty. LOL

CANES 52
Dook 17

With Duke's charmin soft schedule they won't be prepared for the type of hitting and speed they will get from our canes. Should be an advantage for us in winning the game but a disadvantage in winning the coastal imo

Duke is better than UNC.

They've beaten UNC 2 years in a row.
Theyve gone to bowl games 2 years in a row, even won 10 games last year.

They have more players on the All ACC team than we or UNC does with 4.
They have legit NFL talent now in the program.

They have a good coach with 17 returning starters.
They have a favorable schedule too.

Name the legit NFL talent.

Jamison Crowder-13th ranked senior WR by CBS Sports. Named preseason 1st team ALL-ACC 2014. 108 catches/1,360 yards/8 TDs 2013. He was ALL-ACC 2013, and 2nd team All American as a PR.

Laken Tomlinson-2nd ranked senior OG by CBS Sports. Preseason ALL-ACC 2014. ALL-ACC 2013. Named to Outland award watch list.

Takoby Cofield-started 29 games at Duke, rated top 40 senior T by CBS Sports.

Anthony Boone-13th ranked senior QB by CBS Sports. 9-2 as a starter for Duke last year.

Kelby Brown-13th ranked senior LB by CBS Sports. ALL-ACC 2013, and preseason ALL-ACC 2014. Named to Bednerick Award watch list for best defensive player. 114 tackles/11 TFL/2 INT's in 2013.

Jeremy Cash-S-#2 ranked S for 2016 draft. Could be a top 3 round pick if he comes out early. ALL-ACC 2013, and preseason ALL-ACC 2014.

I don't think the 40th ranked senior tackle is going to the NFL, same with the 13th ranked senior QB.

In last year's draft, only 24 OT's were taken (juniors and seniors) and only 14 quarterbacks were taken (juniors and seniors)

You have convinced me that Duke > UNC though. Which I think was your main point.

Is it really a foregone conclusion that Duke will contend for the ACC this year? Don't forget, they are losing 27 (!) total touchdowns now that Connette has transferred. Boone was a 64% passer last year and threw 13 int with 13 TDs. I don't understand why no one will mention that. Their defense is average, they lost over half of their touchdowns and we have them at home early and we should be relatively healthy. I'm much more concerned about VTech on the road on a Thursday than Duke. ****, I'm more concerned about UNC and their running game with Williams than I am about Duke. Just me though :noidea:

I'm not concerned with Duke in a head to head game. I'm concerned that they win the coastal because they only have 3 losses (to UNC, VTech, and us).
