DeMatha running back high on Terps
Four-star running back Anthony McFarland named Maryland among his top schools in an interview with Testudo Times on Sunday. He also pointed out Alabama, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Miami as other schools yet strong interest in.
“I think about it all the time, staying home, playing with my friends again and my teammates and things like that,” McFarland said in the interview. “But at the same time, I’ve gotta go see these other schools and what they’ve got to offer me, what type of institution I’m gonna be in, because you just never know with the recruiting changes and the coaches and things like that, you just never know. So I’m just going all out with this recruitment process.”
Maryland has an advantage because McFarland goes to DeMatha located just minutes from College Park, and the Terps signed four DeMatha players, offensive guard Terrance Davis, running back Lorenzo Harrison and wide receivers Tino Ellis and DJ Turner, in the 2016 class, and you can be sure they’ll be in his ear about staying home.
Then Bama was #1
"If I had a top, it would definitely be Alabama," McFarland said. "They're one of my favorites right now. "(I liked) just the family atmosphere. Going down there, people always see it as a football factory and things like that, but it's a family atmosphere. I love it down in the south. It was a good vibe."
McFarland has a close relationship with 2016 signee Trevon Diggs, who is also from Maryland, and also hung out with rising senior linebacker Reuben Foster.
He spoke with offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin at length, and said he talks to outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi frequently.
"He showed me ways I can contribute to the offense," McFarland said.
McFarland said he plans to officially visit Alabama for the Iron Bowl weekend. He'll either commit on the day of the Under Armour All-America game or on National Signing Day.
Miami, Michigan, Maryland, Texas A&M and Ohio State are other schools he listed as schools in the mix.
Luckily, Shockey's on his trail.
