Anthony McFarland, Jr.

The quotes are under the wrong names for some weird reason.....

The longer this kid drags out his recruitment, the less chances I think he ends up at UM.

I had high hopes for him initially, but now I think it's just courtesy talk with him at the Miami staff now.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Lets see how things are after the paradise camp

Seems like we can't catch a break. Now teams are negative recruiting about the current stadium issue. We absolutely need to win 10 and a bowl.
Gotta give credit though.. the new staff is out there recruiting hard.

How so?
What does this have to do with a recruit?

Yea i dont get that one, seems like reach to me

If that is the ammo that opposing coaches are using against this program, then we are in better shape than
what is assumed.

I wouldnt be surprised if a coach did use that, i have heard some horrible pitches from coaches lol

Since when a stadium helped u win games? Bama could play someone in a parking lot and win

Thomas Brown has been on this kid since he was at Georgia. Unless Maryland suddenly makes a surge in the big 10 I think we will be just fine.

Why is him not committing anywhere yet negative for Miami and not for the other schools recruiting him?

No disrespect but I think you may be wrong on this. A lot of times, when a kid is not going to commit to his hometown school (in this case Maryland), he will wait until later in the process so he doesn't get as many months of grief/harassment from local fans/classmates.

Yawn, wake me up when it matters. If we **** the bed again, none of this matters. In 2014 we were stacked on the commit list, and then it fell apart...

I actually take it as a good sign. Maybe he doesn't want the local pressure he'll get if he commits here now. Maybe he waits so he can commit and get... Like Chise said above why is it more of a bad sign for us than anyone else?

Anthony McFarland Miami, Miami Football Recruiting, Thomas Brown, Anthony McFarland

Anyone with $$ know if there is anything significant in here? Article just came out today
One of Miami’s top running back targets might be favoring Alabama, but just because the Crimson Tide are out front doesn’t mean that the Hurricanes aren’t right in the thick of things.

Anthony McFarland Jr. remains a priority for Thomas Brown.
Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic four-star all-purpose back Anthony McFarland Jr. said this past weekend at The Opening that Miami is right there with Alabama and Maryland when it comes to his short list of favorites.

“Miami has been my dream school since I was young,” McFarland Jr. said.

“They have a great tradition of putting running backs in the league and having great running backs at the institution. I could go down the line — Clint Portis, Frank Gore, Willis McGahee, Joseph Yearby, Duke Johnson. They’re all good. That kind of just catches my eye and then there's the educational side. It’s just a quite atmosphere and things like that. I feel like I could get my work done there. And last but not least, the coaches. I had a good relationship with Mark Richt and Thomas Brown at Georgia, so when they moved over to Miami it was even better, because that has been one of my dream schools.”

Brown, who offered McFarland Jr. last spring while he was at Georgia, is a coach that McFarland Jr. says that he and his family have grown more than just comfortable with throughout the recruiting process.

“Thomas Brown is like a big brother to me," McFarland Jr. said. "Mark Richt, I talk to him about anything as well. They hit me up everyday right now.”

McFarland Jr. got his first look at Miami back in March when he was in town with his parents for an unofficial visit. While he said that he was impressed with what he saw on campus, one of the biggest things outside of Brown that's drawing him to Coral Gables is Miami's tradition of putting running backs in the NFL.

“I have watched all the good running backs that have come through [Miami]. When Duke Johnson left, I wanted to watch the next guy Joseph Yearby. When Joseph Yearby leaves I want to watch the next great back, hopefully I might be there," McFarland Jr. said.

Miami is hoping to get McFarland Jr. back on campus sometime before the start of August and it looks like that trip will happen this weekend for Richt's Paradise Camp. The Top247 back is planning to return to Miami after camping at Alabama last month.

McFarland Jr. (5-8, 186) has already accepted an invitation to play in the Under Armour All-American Game. He says that a decision could come then or on Feb. 1's National Signing Day. The nation's No. 4 ranked all-purpose back and No. 143 overall prospect is also considering Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

Winner winner chicken dinner... I think he ends up at Miami. I just don't see him going anywhere else.

If Harris sticks with Alabama he would be crazy to go there. I get that he isn't afraid of competition or whatever, but Alabama typically features 1 RB and 1 WR. McFarland doesn't fit the Alabama RB mold either, which Harris does. He also doesn't fit the dominant WR mold like a Julio, Cooper, or Ridley. I can't name the last player that used their versatility successfully in a scat back, slot WR, etc at Alabama.

At Miami, he'll still have to compete for a job, but he can be THE guy here, which he can't at Alabama. He could actually use his versatility here because Miami fits his style of play. Miami produces slot WR, scat backs, and guys similar to him. Alabama doesn't. They only produce big (215 lbs +) downhill RBs, who are usually busts in the NFL.

Well, it looks like I was wrong based on that article.

I'll gladly take that L because I really like the kid. I just hadnt seen anything Pro Miami lately when it came to his recruitment. Granted, a lot of that was due to the all the attention that the Bama sites were giving him.

The article was a little positive, though.

It sounded great until he said Miami was one of his "dream schools".....that doesn't usually work out well for us.I still think he comes here though if we have a good season.

Both of them just updated today that their favorite was Bama on 247 $ articles.

Yea I know....and the plan b would be a big push on Holloman and I think we'll hear more about Antoine Thompson imo....there's a kid named Jeff Thomas from Illinois I posted about a while back( if you liked mike Harley, you'll love him) he just told 247 Bama leads but We're #2 yesterday. We'll probably hear about him as well

If we do go after Twan (Thompson), he will be ours to lose. He grew up a Miami fan.

How fast is he and how is seperstion speed?
Without knowing his true 40, I would say it's in the 4.5-4.6 range. He is not a burner. I see 247 has him listed at 6'1 175. He is closer to 5'10 160ish. But he is still growing. Potentially size wise, I'm think his ceiling is D'mauri Jones.

Where he excels at is his route running and RAC. He is very smooth in his cuts, and he doesn't lose speed in and out of breaks. He also has a little mean streak due to always being small.

IMHO, and I hate to say it but, I don't believe he is UM caliber. He definitely is a plan b or c and will probably wind up somewhere like USF unless we strike out on every top wr target.
