Another Art Kehoe-ism

kehoe has been over rated for awhile. Best talent on the team and they were average this year. I'll cut him some slack because I don't know who has our oline zone blocking when they are road graders.

What do You think Kehoe and Stoutland just forgot how to coach? Our lineman struggle to get a push because we are lacking in talet and the S&C department. Henderson just never got out of his own way.

Shannon only recruited 2 true solid LIneman (Linde and Bwash ). We had/have guys like Pipho, Gunn, Franklin, Figs, Horn, Ben Jones who were nobody's coming out. Then He added guys like McDermott (serviceable) Feliciano (nobody but is pretty decent) Henderson (bust) Bunche (serviceable) Barton (LOL) Jer. Johnnson (quit).

Under Golden we have guys who are maulers! Isadora (highly sought) Gadbois (one of the best OL from Ga) Gall (Solid underrated guy from OH) Flowers (stud) Odogwu (high ceiling) Knighton (stud) McDermot (stud) Darling (stud) Linder (stud) Gibbons (stud)

Now we really get to see what staff can do with real deal talent.

Kehoe is old school, he needs to have some new school interpreting. But or Dline play was poor as well. Maybe we just need someone to teach the kids how to be mean, not dirty, but mean. We have looked soft for a long time. Our return will start upfront on both sides of the ball.

So basically we will see real coaching once we have 5* across the line. Got it...

Lets see how the oline does with a qb that can read defenses and help move the chains before taking down kehoe

The OL isn't simply just about push, it's about timing and angles. Our OL has NFL talent, yet it was too inconsistent. This group underachieved and I think a lot had to do with our blocking schemes.

I didn't say that. But your expectations from guys who barely had any offers is ridiculous. Guys like Flowers and Linder have thrived under Kehoe. Both of which were highly rated.

Sadly, Kehoe's OL did outperform almost all other positions on the team, for a while. That looked great when we were 4-0, then when the ACC started, it became kinda obvious that nothing but our recievers and RBs performed anywhere near satisfactory.

That WF game, Wow! Weakest DL in the country, and we got blown away more often than not.

And the Russell Bowl may be the worst OL performance in the history of football.

It could be the OC, the playcalling was mostly predictable and poor. But damnit, these kids have been playing football all their lives. Doesn't give me much confidence in Kehoe.

I notice no one tried to snatch him up. (granted, he is a Cane, but money talks)

our run block scheme is pretty bad in some cases....fundamentally plays are killed before they happen...and that was saw all year....

example...watch the play Burgess blew up in the bowl...who was suppose to make that block..and look where he would have o come from to make it...

2.) The pulling play that easley ate all game where the center is expected to block baack on him is comical...he has no chance regardless who he is....

theae things just get amplifiesd in s hort yardage situations when you bring everybody in tight..plus some of our guys arent that athletic to be reach blocking or zoning to the second level...guys like Malcolm Bunche shave problems wiping their ***....but they do well ina phone booth...Feliciano amybe our most coordinated guy/ tween him nd Seantrel of all people.......pass pro we were pretty good ALL year imo.....

Henderson was a freshman All American and Kehoe turned him into a part timer.

No excuse for using Wheeler over McDermott at center.

If he had any guts, he would have told Golden O Lineman don't shuffle between plays.

Did you even read the quote above where Kehoe basically said every OL plays every position?

Kehoe spoke at an offensive line coaches coaches conference today and had this to say.
Kehoe on recruits: "Don't tell me you're a C or an LT. Tell me you're an offensive lineman and we've got five spots for you. In recruiting you hear, 'Oh, he's a 5-star.' Then you watch the film and he's an 'I want to puke in a bucket' star. He can't move!...I don't like shy guys. You can be shy around girls and all that, but when we're on the football field your *** better not be shy."

He was talking about one the "misses" we had last year, about the 5*. Was part of a similar conversation w/him this time last year.

The run blocking wasn't that great. But the offensive line during the season allowed only 13 sacks. Not too shabby.

^honestly I think Kehoe feels completely indebted to Golden for bringing him back to Miami, I don't think he would ever second guess or give Golden any difference of opinion.

If that's the case then that is super ****ed up.

Art has said several time "this is now Al want the olie run." If you were in exile and had to drive to the local Subway to get cellphone coverage, you walk around on your knees behind the guy that brought you home too. The oline was the best unit this year but if was not that good. The rest of the team was just really bad. They can pass block but have trouble in short yardage run plays. Most of them have body type more suited for tackle not guard. In short yardage you need to get under the dlinemen. Hard for 6'5" and over guys to get under a 6'2" DT. Art never had players switching around so much. That is Al's thing. Al has made it clear that his hand is in everything. I am not about to blame Art for something while every other coach on team gets a pass. We have never won a NC without Art, that is enough for me.

How will a QB make the OL run block better and more consistently in short yardage situations?

thats true when you see 9 guys in the box and a run play is called...run the ball...why opt out or change the run to the edge....wow what was I thinking a smart QB could help the running game....SORRY guys

Unfortunately, Miami has turned into a Big Ten school where it tries to power run the ball, rather than capitalize on its finesse. We run very little counter, misdierection, or option plays to capitalize on Miam's speed. Our running game (which feels like 5 running plays) is to pound the ball down the middle (or the stretch play) and the Defense has to stop me. Our OL isn't built that way. Under Butch, Miami's OL was on point with its timing and angle blocks. We always had guards coming around the oppositie side on counter plays, setting up the RB for success.

His work has been unsatisfactory on the field. More often than not, our OL played poorly.

Worst short yardage run blocking I've ever seen, multiple defensive players in the backfield within a second of the snap way too often, had real trouble with small, untalented DL's from poor teams.
Agreed, our Oline was suppose to be a strong point and I was disappointed. I've never seen a team struggle so greatly to pick up a 3rd/4th and short. Remember before the season when people were calling them the "Great Wall of Coral Gables"?

Well, our top short yardage back was a 195lb converted safety and a 220lb freshman who ran so high you thought he was wearing a backbrace.

I actually think our line problems stem from play calling. Zone blocking requires more agile linemen. Think Denver under Shanahan.
We have some serious beef on our o line.
Just let them drive their man 10 yards back.

We had guys switching positions because we didn't have a 2 deep on o line.
Guys do get tired and dinged up.
We played this past year with a handicap of over 10% less scholarship players.
Even though we will play with 82 school lies this year that's still 6 more than last year, and will help our depth across the board.
