An outstanding and truly epic recruiting class, but....

Outside of Lashlee last season with what he did with Rambo, none of our OCs in years have given top WRs a reason to jump on board. Elite recruits want to know how we’re going to get them to the League and we have no legit case to make.
Just a side question, something I missed, what happened to Conner Lee, Center from Kennesaw, Ga

The WR recruiting continues to be a serious problem and I think the majority of us are frustrated by it. Hykeem, Inniss, Brown, etc.just gives us another year where all the truly elite local kids at WR spurn us and go somewhere else. I saw a stat the other day that showed where Georgia’s top 4 pass catchers this year are either TE’s or RB’s. Can it be done? Sure, but it’s not ideal.Over the last 10-15 years or so it seems like we do OK with those smallish, slot-type guys but we can never land the elite 5 star kids. Obviously, most people will point to coaching as the reason for this, but is there anything else we can be doing to fix this problem?
There is zero reason with Young, Ladson, and Restrepo back that Mario cant get a guy or two in the portal at WR. Also using Skinner using as more of a WR would help. You mention Georgia. Sure it can be done if you have 2 TE's like Georgia has. Mallory was not that type of beast at TE. Mario needs to recruit the Shockey type TE.

I totally agree with the OP. I’ve also heard Mario mention outside WR public multiple times as a position of need during our season and on signing day. With that being said, you can win big without an elite WR1 - look at Michigan and Georgia. Neither have a legit round 1 WR on the roster but they are balanced and use TEs and RBs etc. But we need a guy when you can’t get anything going and toss him a 50/50 ball on the outside. My guess is 2-3 portal additions, one being a big name

The thing is, I didn’t want to come across as ungrateful or like I’m not extremely ecstatic about our class, because I am. I’m thankful for the staff and all the hard work they put in and I think this is one of our most talented classes in many years. I just feel like WR is that gigantic albatross that we need to find a way to address...specifically outside guys who can stretch the field.

Robby Washington is better than all but Inniss and could be the best of them all.

As has been stayed to the point of vomit. No elite wr is coming here given the evidence presented and negative recruiting which is justified. I can only imagine how long this drought will last if gattis is kept on. Maybe change is coming and we are able to improve enough to convince the elites to come. Hopefully those we did get can play above their expectations and provide a nice assist. I don't think the best recruiter in the world could overcome the trash we put out this year

Yes, we can win some ******* games!! People keep pointing to Georgia not having WRs get yards...... so something else is happening there and thats winning. And then with winning, even your not productive WRs like Pickens go in 2nd round while ours go via free agency. Its that simple. Win and players come.

Totally true but we can't have an entire team of slot receivers.

This thread reminds me of the guy *****ing about bringing only the second prettiest girl to the prom.

p.s. Sorry I dont share well!!!

It’s not like I was calling them jags, I like them a lot, but people act like we weren’t aggressively pursuing ****ey, Innis, and hykeem. If people want to act like they wouldn’t trade for those guys then they need to stop *****ing about Gattis killing our wr recruiting because you must be content then.

Meh. Did just fine with KJ Osborn and Charleston Rambo out of the portal.

Find good kids like that, build an electric offense and they will come.

An elite offensive line helps the passing game and ground attack—so celebrate Mauigoa, Okunola, Kinsler, Tripp and Tinilau signing with The U, as well as Cohen transferring in.

Have to get tough in the trenches, need a power running game and need to give a good quarterback time to find quality receivers.

Would much rather have a stellar offensive line and some up-and-coming receivers, than a garbage line and a quarterback trying to get the ball to a 5-Star superstar wideout, with a non-existent ground attack.

The corner is turning. Miami will be in the mix for the nation's best wide receivers soon enough.

Mario loves recruiting. When he identifies through results and conversations the people (gattis) and the system (bro style) aren't going to get him those top guys. He'll make the necessary changes. The rebuild wasn't going to be complete in 1 year and missing on the OC didn't help. Im giving Mario 3 years to get us competing with the top and I'm confident he'll lock up a WR1 by next signing day.

Mario is like a Commander who decides to convert most all his resources to Heavy Armored Tanks and Mechanized Infantry.

No Air Force. No Helicopters. No Air Support. And your Air Force Commander can't fly, never did, and has no idea of how to get the few forces he has - to even get off the ground? And he trickles those few that CAN get off the ground - along anticipated lines of approach?

Thus, no Combined Arms. Enemies can load up on the front to blunt your heavy forces, no matter how good they are.

Yeah, I rag on Gaddis. Got shine on his uniform - but he's got no instinct, much less successes in battle. He's getting us killed every time he shows up to a game.

I’m not a military guy but you make a ton of sense here.

Everyone talks about being balanced and wanting to run the ball better but if the only thing you can do is run the ball, you’re still unbalanced. It’s easier to neutralize a running team that can’t pass than a passing team that can’t run.

Ok, it is wat it is. Go back to the drawing board and see what Mario can do to fix the problem. I’m sure there’s a solution
