We're not, we're just one of the very few that combine the money to pay him what he wants and the situation he desires as well.

Alabama has the cash, but they have Milroe (for now) and younger recruits. LSU has Nuss. Etc. etc.

OU has an opening for a QB starter, and they have his OC. That's why they're getting the first visit.

Miami has the allure of "Come be Cam Ward 2.0"

It's the reason so many of us said for the 8 months leading up to the season that is was beyond imperative that Miami have a legit offense with Cam, because it sets us up so well for the future. Whether you personally believe it to be true or not, there was absolutely a narrative publicly about QBs under Mario. If Cam flopped, good luck convincing anyone else. If Cam was good, we can squash that bull****.

How bout if he's a Heisman finalist? Now you can get the #1 QB in the portal. So, as ****** as the season ended, I did my "glass half empty vs glass half full" thread, and one of the MAJOR points if you're looking for optimism is we proved QBs don't come here to die. They can thrive. That's what has the door open for Mateer. Bags, an opening to be a starter for a high level team, and a personal relationship with a dude who just got back from a Heisman ceremony doing EXACTLY what you're about to (hopefully) do.

That's why you're seeing OU and Miami in front of everyone else at the moment.

"mario the QB killer" narrative is beyond dead. he's about to have his second top 10 draft pick QB to his name, and his OC has put countless QBs in the nfl and just produced a heisman finalist running the best offense in the country. frankly i think we're in a decent place even if we end up with a mendoza, but if we get mateer we could really see this thing kick into overdrive and become a bit of a machine offensively. the OL and running game are key to that too. look what you can do when you're all but guaranteed to have a good one year in and year out.

we have also had back to back years of 3 wr's over 500 yards each.
