Alabama RB Derrick Henry NCAA Violation?? (New Topic)

This is hardly exclusive to Bama or even the SEC, for that matter. Guys that play at big time schools are often given advances for cars and such because the local dealership owners (who are sometimes boosters) believe they'll make it to the league. They often hit them with dumb interest rates on top of it. One of the coaches back when I was an intern had worked for Tressel, among others, and they would tell them which dealerships would do this but the coaches had no involvement in terms of money or anything.

I have no doubts Bama does a little extra for their guys but it wouldn't be a shocker if this was as much due to his new found status after the year he had and the way too early draft projections for him.

Plenty of Bama players have new rides. This isn't anything new. Henry having a new ride is not going to all of a sudden spark a NCAA investigation. Now before I say anything else, let me say that Bama most definitely cheats, but guys, we're talking about a Dodge. Some of you are acting like it's a bentley. You can lease one of those things for less than $300 a month. Does that mean that Bama isn't paying for it? Nope, but this isn't that big of a deal to me.

As a college student, $300 a month is a lot. What about the insurance on a brand new sports car. C'mon homie don't make it seem like it's some small number.

Well, it's definitely not a big number. With that said, you aren't even factoring in that somehow (I know this may seem impossible) his family could afford to pay for it. I mean, 300 bucks is basically cable/internet and a family cell phone plan. Even if his family is poor (which is what's being assumed in this thread), I can't tell you how many "poor" people buy cars with their income tax refund. Combine that with some financial aid money, and making that monthly payment is a breeze. Wash, rinse, repeat next year. Sorry, but it's just not that big to me. I see people that "can't afford" new cars driving them all of the time.

Do you think it's difficult for a college student to get a 5000 dollar student loan each year? 15,000 dollars in student loans before he's off to the NFL draft is nothing.

Can you use those loans for stuff outside of education?

I haven't been to school in years, but when I was in school, yes. You were cut a check for anything over tuition and room/board (if you lived on campus). NUMEROUS students could not wait for pell grant/student loan checks to come in the mail. In the immortal words of Randy Moss; straight cash homie!

What about the insurance on that thing? That's ll assuming he was given all that favorable treatment on the interest and payments. It just seems like a lot to me.

Unless this thread turns into how Alabama got caught or how Dynasty is silently recruiting bag men, this is a been there, done that, got caught, cried when someone else didn't thread.

Dynasty - Mount up. Use the same code word as last time. Place to be announced.

The problem with our "fans" is some of you fools would be the first to tweet you bought him the car.

I don't think the insurance is that bad. I mean, I see TONS of these young cats driving chargers and challengers. Again, I am in no way saying that bama is clean, but instead that this car isn't some big eyebrow raiser to me.

Oh ok. Got you. Honestly, it's a racket I tell you. I think they've changed the rules a bit now where parents have to co-sign, but even when they co-sign, you can still blow the money on whatever you like. Tuition keeps rising partly because the government keeps loaning money because "everyone deserves to go to college." I really wish someone conducted a study on 1) the amount of student loan debt and 2) how much of that debt was actually applied towards tuition, housing, books, etc. I know there were a couple of semesters where I balled out via financial aid money. Looking back on it, all I can do is shake my head. Don't even get me started about the credit cards that they enticed you to get. I think I maxed my Discover Card out on alcohol. LOL
