From what I'm hearing both quarterbacks are having a good fall so that's a plus for the quarterback competition and making both of them better at the same time. It's a win/win situation. Long time since we had battles like this.

If Golden is really taking some of his cues from Carroll, perhaps the situation rings some of Russell Wilson's rookie year when everyone expected the job to go to the experienced Matt Flynn.

Just sayin'.

(I don't expect it, but might as well discuss it)

I'm sure if Kayaa outperforms Heaps and demonstrates the same command and leadership that Wilson showed when he won his team and Carroll over that Golden will start Kayaa.. But the word out of camp is that Kaaya while showing impressive skills is lacking in the other areas.

I really don't get the cynicism this fanbase with regards to how Golden is handling the QB competition.

what being vocal? anyone can talk louder thats an easy fix.... Coley said on thursday practice that he improved on that the day golden said that in that interview

Obviously you don't know what was meant by being "vocal" in the context which Golden and Coley said.. LOL @ being louder.

As far as making sure he is communicating what he is seeing on the field, making sure everyone is lined up correctly, being loud In the huddle, making the right audibles and checks?

Miami's quarterbacks continue to progress daily. Freshman Brad Kaaya had a successful showing on Sunday, making several highlight-worthy throws. While Kaaya connected for first downs with receivers Stacy Coley and Malcolm Lewis and running back Duke Johnson, his most impressive throw was a perfectly placed ball over the safety and into the hands of Herb Waters for a 25-yard gain.

Kaaya is throwing to our top players and Heaps is throwing to expected backups. That was the most interesting thing I noticed in that article.

I really don't get the paranoia and defensiveness you're exhibiting in multiple threads.

Agree...I don't get how starting a QB who was ranked 127th out of 128 eligible QB's last year from an efficiency standpoint is any more/less dangerous than starting a talented freshman.

If it's anywhere near close...you start Kaaya. The redshirt thing is just ridiculous cause if the kid is as good as most of us think he is...he won't be here 5 years regardless.

While I agree with most of your post, I don't think it's fair to characterize Heaps with that stat, or at the very least, using it to project him towards this year. The difference in athlete between Miami and Kansas has to be one of the biggest leaps one could make in Division 1. As long as he can dink and dunk, he should be serviceable.

But still, start Kaaya.

i am of the same mindset. ultimately kaaya might be good enough to start but heaps had some inferior talent at kansas. hard to project his performance based on that situation

Given what we have seen from Al, one is clear: IF Kaaya starts opening day, we have one heck of a freshmen QB. Al will go with Heaps unless Brad has just made it impossible.

That was very encouraging.

He's kind of implied earlier that he didn't want to get too excited until he saw stuff with pads on in a live environment more but you can tell he thinks they have a lot of straight up killers on both sides of the ball.

That '13 class and this '14 class have brought something different to this team.

Jamal Carter
Muhammad
Corn Elder
Jermaine Grace
Artie Burns
Dobard
Chad Thomas
Braxton Berrios
Brad Kaaya
Courtel Jenkins
KC McDermott

are guys that have changed the way this team plays the game. There's a competitive fire that those guys play with and it could be seen in their high school tapes and interviews. Number one example of that is this

No disrespect to guys like Jimmy Gaines and Kacy Rodgers and AJ Highsmith, but they don't strike me as that type of player and unfortunately, I feel like that type of player has defined our football team for the last decade. Those guys are not the hyper competitor that aims to destroy you. The guy that doesn't aim to destroy you for a game, or a quarter, they aim to destroy for each and every snap that they lineup against you in between the lines. Carter...Burns...AQM...Chad Thomas...KC McDermott. These are guys that play mean and I don't think it's an accident that most of these gentlemen line up on the defensive side of the ball. That intensity can lift an entire team and it's what makes a team practice better everyday.

No offense, but your video is a pretty poor example of anything. Everyone does that drill these days and it often results in scuffles, jaw jacking, etc.

It's amazing how people think every year is going to be different and then they scratch their head at the end of the season wondering what happened. People created the Coker country club when Shannon took over and then that morphed into Shannon recruiting lazy entitled kids. Golden takes over, he's got a plan, can win now, then the cloud excuse, gotta get rid of those Shannon kids (who gave him his best defense he's had here), and the list goes on.

People need to quit blaming the players and otherworldly entities that come to them in their sleep. Accountability, it's a trait this HC of ours needs to learn and it's high time our fans started pointing fingers in the right direction. This **** sandwhich we've been fed since he's been here is just that, ****.

And I strongly believe in that stat, at least from a relative perspective.

Mind you, I'm an accountant. If anyone can lecture you on stats lying or the fact that the presentation of any individual set of numbers/data can be painted to paint any picture you want.....it's me. I still, however, believe very firmly in the law of averages and the relative usefulness of some historical data.

I'm not saying he's the 127th best quarterback in America...but I am saying that any human being that lines up at quarterback at any division one school and finishes toward the bottom of that hierarchy is, at best, a marginal talent.

There's been plenty of instances at every level of competition where a quarterback is surrounded by garbage and at least carries himself respectively. I'm sorry but I don't buy the excuse making for one second. Heaps is here because we were/are in dire straits after the Ryan Williams injury and Olsen looking like a flop. He's a retread.

So while we both agree Kaaya should start (at least til Williams is ready), we'll agree to disagree on our evaluation of Heaps.
