Al Golden Aug 10.

Nice to see Antonio doing well. I really feel like he caught a ton of undeserved **** last year. He didn't play near as bad as some mopes made it out to be especially a kid so new to the position. He plays physical and is athletic, never shies away from contact. I expect a good season from him, he's too talented an athlete to fall down the depth chart

Miami's quarterbacks continue to progress daily. Freshman Brad Kaaya had a successful showing on Sunday, making several highlight-worthy throws. While Kaaya connected for first downs with receivers Stacy Coley and Malcolm Lewis and running back Duke Johnson, his most impressive throw was a perfectly placed ball over the safety and into the hands of Herb Waters for a 25-yard gain.

Kaaya is throwing to our top players and Heaps is throwing to expected backups. That was the most interesting thing I noticed in that article.

I still don't see the staff starting him on opening night.

You gotta start out with heaps. If he is able to manage the game and play relatively well, you are getting by without throwing kids into fires and burning shirts. If you started him in that atmosphere and he's got a little deer in the headlights, it does you no good to then bring in Heaps cause you already burned the shirt. Kaaya should only come in if he absolutely has to.

I love that there is a legitimate QB competition for a change, it'll make them both better.

From what I'm hearing both quarterbacks are having a good fall so that's a plus for the quarterback competition and making both of them better at the same time. It's a win/win situation. Long time since we had battles like this.

If Golden is really taking some of his cues from Carroll, perhaps the situation rings some of Russell Wilson's rookie year when everyone expected the job to go to the experienced Matt Flynn.

Just sayin'.

(I don't expect it, but might as well discuss it)

If we were starting against Arkansas State or FAMU, I could envision, albeit very narrowly, Kaaya maybe getting the start. But Kaaya is going to have to be head and shoulders blowing Heaps out of the water for AG to throw him into the fire right out of the gate like that against UL. I still think he goes with Heaps, and brings Kaaya in slowly and if he can handle the heat, transition him in for more and more series. I can see a scenario where Kaaya may be starting later in the season, just think its unlikely right out of the gate.

Maybe. But I think Kayaa has to play this year or this team will be faced with the same dilemma next year: no QBs with experience.

you start the best guy for the job that is making the most plays and least mistakes regardless of classification .............................Brad kaaya

I agree with this, Kaaya is gunna be the starter for us this year its just a question of when. With the momentum he seems to be gaining I think he starts by the Nebraska game.

I'm sure if Kayaa outperforms Heaps and demonstrates the same command and leadership that Wilson showed when he won his team and Carroll over that Golden will start Kayaa.. But the word out of camp is that Kaaya while showing impressive skills is lacking in the other areas.

I really don't get the cynicism this fanbase with regards to how Golden is handling the QB competition.

Not if Heaps performs well.

If neither QB separates themselves from one another the smart play would be to start Heaps. He's the SR with experience that should be able to handle the pressure better than a true freshman would. He plays well and we win, then no need for Kaaya to get in except for in garbage time.
However if he plays bad, bring Kaaya off the bench. He'd have less pressure on his shoulders which would help him tremendously.
Look at how Morris performed when he came in for an injured Jacory his freshman year. Looked better than when he had the pressure of being the starter.

I like that he said that we have a mature team, meaning they don't have to hit as much. Hopefully we will be relatively healthy at the end of camp.

I really don't get the paranoia and defensiveness you're exhibiting in multiple threads.

Obviously you don't know what was meant by being "vocal" in the context which Golden and Coley said.. LOL @ being louder.
